Where do you go if you want to advertise a new local business?

Like I know the local free paper is an option. But is there a craigslist site that does that sort of thing?

    Help me with some suggestions.

Ok i'm registering on yahoo. But what if someone maliciously gives my company a bad rating? do I have the option of removing my company from the listing?

I would register on Google, as many people look to Google when finding anything. Those local business search listings will come up quite a few times, I imagine. Actually, whenever I'm looking for any business, local or not, I turn to Google's products first and foremost.

Someone giving you a bad rating on a company site is out of your hands. Whether you set up a business listing or not, if someone wants to post negative remarks about your company, they will. All it takes for the public to see it is a simple google search. I've read many bad reviews of companies that were posted in forums like this one.

That's a great point, C9. I think the best way to avoid bad reviews or ratings is to provide great service to your customers. The more devoted customers you have that love you and what you do, the less bad reviews you'll have. I think you'll always have SOME bad reviews, but it's the people that love you and rave about you that will make the difference.

Yes. Search Craigslist. A long time ago, I used to work the malls and parking lots. Hard work but you pick up a few clients that jump start your business. Depending on what the business is.

A negative review on a yahoo or google local business listing could easily be countered if you put an effort to it. You should monitor your listing and be responsive. These negative reviews could help you fine tune your business and your operations so take advantage of these!

I have successfully marketing a number of local businesses using craigslist. I have gotten leads and clients from people searching craiglist as well as through major search engines like Google who love keyword and content rich ads on craigslist. Just use your primary keywords as well as city and zip, and you should have no problem getting some attention.

    Hi,

First you need to register your business on local Google, Yahoo, Bing and local search engines. After that join local social networking sites and specific forums with goof pr.

Maybe someone here can tell me about an offer I received in the mail for SEO. Its from someone called Web Listing Inc, offering submission to 20 search engines for 85 dollars, is this for real and would it be worth it?

It is not worth the 85 bucks, they just sent the submission request for you, you can do it yourself. You only need to submit your site to the four popular search engines: Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, Bing. You can find the submission page by googling <search engine name> submit site.

Not sure about the US but in the UK Gumtree is a pretty good source of local business listings. Allows you to post your advert by City as with craigslist
