    What's the big deal about SEO?????

    As business owners would it be more efficient to do your own SEO? or would you be better off outsourcing it?

    I guess the answer to your question would be how much knowledge you have about the subject and also how deep your pockets are,if you do it yourself all it costs is your time but if you outsource it the costs can be big.

    It's interesting that you are posting this question, as your signature implies that you offer SEO and social media services.

    In any event, that depends on the business's needs and their marketing strategy. If they have the funds and desire to outsource their marketing and SEO, they can to a variety of SEO firms and agencies. Those all small businesses need to do research and be wary of those "too good to be true" offers for cheap SEO and packages services that will only perform spam tactics. Find a reputable SEO and internet marketing agency, or you are better off not doing it at all.

    Otherwise, small businesses can bring in an experienced in-house SEO person to manage their online marketing and SEO efforts. Or they can learn it on their own and take baby steps for their website. Like I said, it all goes back to the tactics that match up to their marketing strategy and what funds they have available.

    Based on my experience... I've done a little of both. SEO can be a little complicated depending what types you do. Even if you chose to do it yourself you are probably going to need to outsource certain things.

    Example: I post about 1000 articles a month using specialized software to build back links
    - I outsource the writing of the articles for $2.00 to $3.50 per article
    I do this because it would cost me more then that based on the value of my time
    - I then pay a different person $2.00 per article to post to a distribution system which includes the article being spun 3 times at 30% or greater
    Again I do not have the time to do this myself
    - What I do is audit the progress of everything

    So for about $5000 a month I get 3000 articles posted which equals about 10,000 back links.

    That's $0.50 a link!

    I spend about 2-5 hours a month on all this apposed to
    Writers = 250 hours
    Posters = 85 hours

    Even if I wanted to do this myself it would take 335 hours a month... thats 11 hours a day. I have better things to do like running my business...
