Too Much Sharing on Social Media Is Not Any More Safe for You.

Any information you are sharing on any social media is disseminated to millions of other users. One status update that you post shows up in many search results. In most of the cases it ends up into criminal cases like burglary, murder, stalking etc.
There are people who are using your information against you. So think before you post any information.
    UK's Ministry of defense says:
"Social networking sites are great for keeping in touch with family and friends, and letting the world know what you're up to... [But] remember that there may be those who are using such sites for unsavoury reasons. These range from criminals looking for ways to con you or steal your identity, to those who may wish us harm. While it is unlikely that you'll fall victim, you should be aware of the risk.
This is why you need to be aware of how much information there is online about you. Not just that which you've put there yourself, but also that which other people or organisations have put there."

UK ministry has also uploaded two major videos in order to create awareness among st the masses related to social posting.
The concept behind the videos is quite clear of not posting any important information on social media.
In one video a soldier in army tells his mother an important information which she updates in a social media and invites problem.

These videos act as a wake up call.We all are aware of the negativity of posting too much of personal information on social forums. But most of the time it becomes irresistible for us to not post. These videos are a wake up call for all of us.
Today is the time when we want to share everything with everybody may it be photographs, videos, experiences etc, but we definitely don't want our information to go into wrong hands so we need to be very alert when we post something.
Through these status updates people actually come to know about your present locations, what is your profession your personal numbers and email id's.
This information is used by wrong people to take advantage of every situation.
So be alert, post information with care and enjoy the social media. After all no one can imagine a life without Face Book, LinkedIn, MySpace etc. It is all about thinking before you are tweeting anything.
Lets learn from mistakes of others and avoid being a victim.

Sapna, thank you for this insightful post. Its true, anything that you input or post on the Internet can be easily accessed by anyone even if its secure it can always be compromised.

I use to be very paranoid about everything I type on to the Internet, I even was scared using my own name. But as time went on, I started to embrace this transparency because the benefits for me outweighed the negative; I had nothing to hide and getting recognized on the internet is what furthered my standard of living. Society is evolving, everyone and their mother is on some social network, and its a powerful tool if used in the right way.

The Internet is much like the universe, and we are stars shining bright and pulling in masses with our gravitational pull.
