How many of you use it, both ways ie sign up to receive messages for discounts, coupons, etc and also if you use it for your business.
How well does it work out?
What would you do different?

Even though I haven't used it I believe it is one of the most nominal ways of marketing and with the continuous decrease in the price of cell phones and more and more people being able to afford it, text message marketing will be of great impact in the coming years.
It is a good idea to get permission from your customers to send them occasionally text messages.
I use SMSing when I promote nightclubs.
on the door we have a "competition" for a free bottle of champagne and 2 VIP cards.
"send in your email address to this number and be in the draw to win."
It's a great way of collecting mobile numbers and email addresses and using them later on to advertise to.

is a good tool, it offers autoresponder SMes and instead of playing with your mobile, you can use your PC to maintain your database which I found beneficial.

Which one do you use Express Messages or Standard Messages and do you see a difference?
When people text "12345" with keyword "Sample", you sent them auto respond message, text your email address....?
Thanks

It is good not to bombard your customers with text messages, but is useful if you have some important information or a great offer. If you demographic is teenagers, then it is definitely a great option.

I do not have any knowledge whether or not text messaging help in promoting a business. It appears like a spam if you fail to guise your objective properly but if you can wield its power properly, it can prove highly effective in promoting your marketing campaign.
If people opt in knowing that they will receive texts, it's neither bombarding them nor spam. Obviously limitation should be sent on how often messages are sent out.
Yeah it really all depends on what kind of business you run. Mobile text marketing is going to be useful for many businesses but if you really don't have anything of value to send to your customers via text than it will be regarded as spam and hurt brand image significantly. The example at the top about the free bottles of champagne is a good example of how you can get people interested in "opting-in" to your mobile marketing initiatives but the last thing you want to do is start bombarding your customers or patrons that come to your store or place of business. Just make sure that what your sending is valuable to the customer in some way, if you can accomplish making value in the texts you send (whether they are coupons, reminders of events/sales, etc) that your customers/subscribers to your mobile marketing can actually use.
If you go to 3rdscreen.org they have a bunch of articles about how mobile marketing has been successful for many genre's of business.
What i have seen is it increases awareness but not necessarily conversions.

We must have to be careful, because some of messages we are receiving are just a scam..
