I write about social capital. Just like business capital or investment capital or even human capital - this seems to be what 'earned media' most values...

Having a website would be a plus point for a new business. Having online presence is a must nowadays in this computer age. Potential and prospective clients can view and study your company profile even without approaching your company directly. For a new business ventures, it may not guarantee you automatic sales but it can give you an edge. Of course physical offline marketing strategies are very important for introducing your business to the target market.

I heard a saying once "the internet is the easiest thing that is hard to do" and I believe this rings true in this situation. Many business owners think if they just put up a website their customers will find them and you will generate sales and leads.

This is often the big problem when businesses get a website designed. They often spend ten's of thousands of dollars to get a really 'good looking' site made however this is the same thing, a "good looking" site will not guarantee more sales or leads either, in fact I have experienced first hand many 'ugly sites' out preforming the 'good looking' ones in many cases. It is the marketing you do to promote your site that will determine your online success or not.
