What are some popular and creative marketing based business' that can be started online? I am currently a marketing major and looking for something in the field to start my own business around. All ideas are appreciated.

Here might be a few internet marketing niches to consider.

-Video marketing and how to go viral

-Local internet marketing - go local before you go global

-Social Media - How Twitter, Google+ and Facebook can increase product placement and awareness

-Mobile online marketing - turning cell phones into billboards

There are lots of smaller niches you could derive from the above categories as well. Another idea is just to try and land you first marketing client on one of the major freelance sites. See what the job entails and grow and learn from there. What school are you a marketing major at? When you do you graduate? Does your school have a career center?

I would recommend that you become an expert about one particular form of advertising. That might be radio ads, television, print advertising or some more specific niche advertising like Facebook fan pages, facebook paid advertising, Google Adwords, Search Engine Optimization for Google, Google local search, Twitter marketing, etc....

Once you are an expert in that field you can then market those very specific services to clients. You will succeed much faster by being an expert about just one of those topics as opposed to trying to do all of them for a wide range of customers.

It all depends on what your product is and what is the target audience.
It also depends on your budget.
If you have a 100k marketing budget you could try to get celebrities to tweet about your company, local/regional mag ads, radio ads, facebook ads, etc... It all depends on your business possibilities are endless

Also create blogs, twitter accounts, facebook pages that will interest people.....

-Maybe you plan on launching a clothing line for runners:
Before your launch create a twitter account and post daily news or tips for runners like who won the certain race...
Even better create a blog and write inspiring stories about amateur runners that are doing good....
You could get in contact with the runners and offer them the clothes for free...
Get them to run if they place good take a picture of them with your clothes line...create a blog post with an interview/story, then link the blog form your twitter account....

That is a hidden marketing strategy as you are not marketing your brand right way, but you are creating followers that will follow you because they like what you tell them, your stories.... Once your brand is launched create another twitter for the brand and post good things on the other twitter about that brand....

Something like:
OK running Company is offering our followers a 10% discount on their new summer line, etc....

I know it is all written messy and it is a long post but just putting my ideas out before I fall asleep.....

Have you tried facebook advertising, the reason i ask is because you can be as specific as you want when it comes to this. For example you can choose the age, location, relationship status as well as many others; all this will help you reach your target market group.

Also it sounds stupid but have you tried youtube, the reason i recomend posting videos on here with your business websight is that youtube has something like 2 billion views a day, its free and you can link it to a facebook page about your business, show them some of your work.

I agree. Marketing via social media is definitely effective. And you don't even have to be famous. I just read that Twitter is the 10th most visited site on the internet! Pretty crazy huh?
