Post Obituaries and Memorial Services Going Social Networking

For years, families and friends have traditionally mourned their loved ones in private settings, mostly enclosed only to those who were relatively close to the deceased person. However, as social networks are becoming more of the everyday living for many people around the world, so as online social memorial services, where families and friends are able to easily memorialize and eulogize their deceased loved ones, cohorts, and even pets.

Social networks such as Facebook and MySpace have seen a high rise in group pages created by fans, friends, and families of the deceased loved ones. In June 2009, a group page that was created to eulogize the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has seen an overnight sky-rocketing of more than 7 million fans from around the world in just two days, making it the largest group page on Facebook.

In recent years, a few memorial web sites, such as Tributes.com (Obituaries | Online Obituaries | Death Records | Online Memorials - Tributes.com), have sprouted up, geared to capture a niche market for online obituaries and memorial service. These web sites offer several online services, including obituary news, information, and funeral announcements.

A simple and free social application for social networks, Wrisen.com (Sign up and use Wrisen on Facebook | Facebook), was launched on Tuesday this week, which offers users to best remember, honor and cherish their loved ones. Unlike many other social apps and web sites, Wrisen offers a new view for friends and families to eulogize their loved ones and pets. While Tributes.com is becoming a hub for obituary news and information, Wrisen is instantly becoming the central hub for social eulogy, where families and friends can upload and share photos and videos for their loved ones, post condolences and comments on their loved ones' profiles on Wrisen.

"I am from South Africa and currently I'm a student at Franklin Univeristy here in Columbus. Two days ago, my uncle unexpectedly passed away in a car accident, but I don't have money to go home for the funeral. Most of my family members are on Facebook and I told them add Wrisen to their profiles so we can share and exchange our sorrow and mourn our uncle. Even though I am here and they are there, I still feel as though I am with them, in the same room, because with Wrisen, we are able to share of grief in real-time." Cries Mfeko.

Each time someone posts a photo, video, comment, eulogy, or a condolence on any profile on Wrisen, then it's instantly distributed and posted on every Facebook friends' homepages. In the process, the Wrisen system allows users to share memories and exchange sympathies with everyone in their friends' list, which may help make them feel a little better.

Most of us everywhere, have lost some members of our family, relatives, friends, and or those we knew, or simply admired, and the more people you may have sharing condolences with you, the better you may feel, even if it's just a little.

"What we're doing is building Wrisen as a platform for families and friends to easily share and comfort each other with everyone else in the world. So that they can have a free place not only to grief, but to remember, honor and cherish their loved ones forever." Claims Timothy Sweatte, Wrisen VP of Marketing.

I don't like it at all, but that's not a reflection of my opinion of the entrepreneurial spirit, just my view as an outsider of an intention to commercialize one of the most difficult experiences in life. I truly hope you're successful, but I am very turned off of it.

    Cool

There is this story that I had come across from one of an ancient Chinese book(about 2000 years old) called "Han Fei Zi"..

There are 2 businessmen.. One selling horse carriages, the other selling coffins..

The horse carriages businessman prayed that everyone will earn more money & be richer so that more people will engaged his business..

The coffins seller, however, prayed that more people will die sooner so that his wares will be sold..

The questions asked from the book:
So is the horse carriage businessman kinder or of a higher moral character than the one who sells coffins?
Or is the horse carriages business a better turn-on than the coffin business?
