New Junk Removal Business- Marketing Plan help/how to get more customers

    Hello all,

I am starting a junk removal and house trash outs business, I have been doing this on the side for the past 6 months or so and have been doing good just advertising on craigslist. However, I want more of course. I want to become an actual business. I spoke with SCORE and they helped me with getting together licensing and insurance things like that.

My question to any of you is how do you think I can get more customers?

I really want to attract realtors and landlords but not sure the best way to do this. I also want to get more residential property owners just clearing junk out so I am going to advertise in a few local papers.

Does anybody have any ideas or advice to get more customers or realtors?

    Thank you for your help

You could create a website and then use Google Adworks or a similar service to advertise. Also word of mouth is very powerful, CraigsList is good...and maybe go to a realtors or landlords and give them your business card or pamphlet to hand out.

Has this business been successful on the side? Have you made decent money and had a good amount of customers? How do you plan to expand this, there will be a time when wherever you live runs out of houses to clear, then what? Will you expand to other cities, start up other branches? Make it a chain?

Google Adworks is great. However, looking at this approach from being someone who is still involved in real estate ventures I can say that using some of your local resources. I would like for you to pm me. Therefore, I can provide you with a quick sheet of people to contact in your local area you can and should get in touch with, such as the realtors and landlords you wish to service. With them on your side. Residential Property shouldn't be too far behind. It takes commitment, I know cliche as it may sound, but also a bit "friend mapping" to get the right momentum for a business in a particular area of industry. I hope I can be of service.

Here's an idea that Dave Ramsey throws out for this exact situation. This doesn't really need to be that complicated. Just make it a mission to visit every real estate office in your area. Bring them a box of donuts and your business card taped to the top and introduce yourself to the folks in the office. Explain your service and even offer to do a few jobs for free to start. Real estate people and office folk love donuts. Once they see that you're a normal person and can show up on time and do a quality job, they'll be way more receptive to followon business. Don't get hung up with trying to market yourself online....get out of the cave and kill something.

Indeed, google adwords is a great option. You can even narrowly target your area within a few miles of your business to optimize your spending. When we first started our assisted living home business, we also put brochures on people's doors within our area. That is how we got our very first client.

i been in this business since 2005 and trust me, you will never run out of houses to clean ( not ever) junk will always pile up, you can clean out a house today and in a 2 years that house will be full of junk again, also people are always moving out and some of the junk they cant take with them. you also have the small remodeling companies that cant afford a dumpster for a small project and they will call you instead, also furniture gets old or breaks and thats when they call you to haul it away, when someone call you to haul away their junk from a garage is because they need to make room for more junk or new junk...i been in business since 2005 and i only stay within a 20 mile radius...i remember when i was a kid my mom use some local guys to cleanout some junk like 3 times and my uncle use them like twice i think...
