"Social media is the new way by which you can reach to millions, get business and finally change the whole scenario."

The sentence written above depicts the thinking of a normal Facebook user of today.Social media has turned out into such a big buzz that people expect a lot from it. They expect people to follow them, like them and make them famous.
All thanks to the marketing strategy of Facebook. people see and feel what Zuckerberg want them to feel. Today I would want to write about some of the myths (self claimed ) which I think are associated with social media.
MYTH-1
Using social media means being active on Facebook and twitter.

Yes, this is the biggest myth that I have observed everywhere. Social media is not all about FB and twitter. Different social media targets different services and people. According to a survey if a person wants some information related to any of the health services then there are only 6 % chances that a person willl search in facebook. However, 48% go for webmd.com which is the highest %.
So same is the case with all other services, an account in Fcaebook will not help you with fetching clients. You need to understand what social media your would be clients are using.
In case of technology it can be any tech sites which are specific and to the point.

Myth-2
You have a target audience who is using social media.

Superficially this statement is true.
If you are thinking (which even i was a victim of at some point of time) that you have a target audience waiting for you to contact them and who will read your status updates and like n comment on it. Well you are absolutely wrong on that note. In social media instead of having audience to your updates try to be more interactive on communities and groups and fan pages.Just let go your target audience mindset and pay more emphasis on interpersonal, or word-of-mouth, communication that naturally occurs in these networks and communities. We need to approach social media without a “consumer” frame Adopting this perspective makes it easier to understand why we have to let go of our content, unlock the formatting keys and make the content accessible to people who can then pass it along to others. We need to work on us and our skills which is an automatic marketing. People know what they want and we gotta show them that we have it in us. So keep it simple.

Myth-3
I can change people with social media.

Like every amateur writer, even I felt that at some point of time. The great leap that people must make when working with social media is designing content with the expectation that it will be passed on by others. Keep your intentions simple and create a content that people find relevant as they are glad to share it with their friends. You can change the world if you can create a revolution with your content.

Myth-4
You can reach wide audience via social media
The people we wish to engage with around specific issues need to be understood in the context of how they construct their social media space, not by how we construct it for ourselves. This idea became crystal clear to me during a project in which we were interviewing young, low-income women about their use of social media. Because we were already contemplating recruiting peer counselors, or evangelists, as part of a social marketing program. You need to try different medias. You need to be omnipresent.
