You might want to look into websites like elance.com if you are doing freelance work.
I hire there for anything I need done, a great way to find business.

As a member of Linkedin, you will have an opportunity to join several groups. While the temptation will be there to join web designer groups, I would make it a point to join small business owner groups and then post some informative filled information to those groups. Something along the lines of "the importance of a web presence for a small business"

Don't do that right away of course, first get familiar with the groups. However If you have time, you could start writing some content right now.

Linkedin is a social networking website just like Facebook and Twitter but more focussed on business and professional point of view. It is quite popular and people connect to their colleagues or even represent their portfolio resume in this website.
