Is Direct Marketing still good now a days with all these e-marketing?

When am in a publishing company, we reach out our target market through sending direct mails, brochures with a subscription forms in it. We are sending an approximate 1000 to 2000 mailers a week and the ratio we got was 1:1000. That means for every 1000 mailers we sent out, we got only 1 subscription from that batch. That was 10yrs ago.

Now Im in a CPA firm and task to do marketing and in doubt if DM (direct mail) still applicable in today's generation

    Any advise please?

    Lukring,
I would say that its a good way to reach your customers, but I think you have to pay attention on the strategy of the campaign.

For direct mail I found that there is really no reason for send thousands of spam-like mailing to all possible prospects, instead try to find and research the type of business you think is more like to engage with you. Don't send the usual post-card mail, instead create a personal letter directed to the specific reader.

First thing I notice when I open up my mails is if the letter is directed to me or a generic "To whom it may matter." That kind of opening really makes an impact on me and rarely motivates me to engage with whatever they are selling, unless its something amazing. I believe something worth mentioning is that in most cases your offering is not something that will have the reader anxious to have, instead try to establish an initial connection point with the reader, let him know you would love to work with him and how your businesses can work together for the benefit of both.

Have him act based on the letter and then, even if he simply visited your site and requested more info(or simply showed interest) send him a personal letter direct to him thanking him for his new request.

Remember that what your trying to do here is giving him a sense of assurance in your company. They key to service offering is establishing connections and having your customer perceive the best possible impression of your business.

If the reader perceives you or your company didn't take your time to actually address his needs, why would he take his time to contact your company? But if the reader perceives your interest in its business and give him importance your chances of acquiring that customer will double. The human mind works that way, we want to feel important, if you make someone feel important they will appreciate it.

Those are just my personal recommendations, but really every business is different so they may not apply to you. Either way, I hope it helps!

I would love to add more on this topic but I will have to get back later! Sorry for the super concise and perhaps hard to read post!

    Regards,
    Francisco
