You are definitely right Jalen.Shane and that is why my website has nothing to do with selling clothes

As of right now we are scheduled for a launch date for somewhere in mid to late January. I will probably start heavily marketing the site by mid January and hopefully do a good job at it. Thanks again to all of you who keep posting and I hope this discussion helps out everyone else and not just me.

Another question... In the beginning, Who would I put in my advertising spots? And even if I give the spots away to companies for free do I still need to contact them and tell them I am advertising them on my website? What sort of consequences will I have if I dont warn a company before hand? Also, anyone know of a reputable clothing company that wouldnt mind being advertised on Stylejunkfor free? So far I've received approval from TOMS SHOES but I still need 4 more spots to fill up. Help me!!

Very much agree with your statement that SEO should be done in the right way which initially brings your website up in the results.

I agree with SEO suggestion. Three things one has to concentrate to gain traffic through search engine optimization. First is relevant and quality content on a particular keyword usually related to the product/services. Second is link building, link exchange and reciprocal linking so more sites will be pointing to your site as reference. Last one is social media participation so people who have an account on these social media sites will get to know your site. With all this have a tell a friend form on your site, because the most powerful technique for getting visitors is a personal referral.

Everybody who has commented before me gave great advice. For your type of site, social media would be a safe bet for getting recognized quickly, as long as you're willing to take the time to beef up your friend's lists, provide useful content and maintain your relationship with them.

I'm still just learning about marketing myself, so I'm by no means an expert (yet), but I would also recommend not relying on just one method...use a mix!

The idea is to get the word out about your site. It doesn't have to be expensive - try a press release on a free or affordable submission site to introduce it in time for the launch...or use Google's Keyword Tool to come up with some relevant keywords to use in starting your SEO campaign...or start a blog feed for your new social media friends to follow (again, useful content is king).

From what I could tell, this site has loads of potential. I used to design my own clothes, so I'll definitely be back to check it out upon the launch. Good luck!

Great ideas everyone. Besides social networking, I am looking into posting some kind of ad in some sort of newspaper or a press release on a submission site. I also plan on having a small event where I give away free Stylejunk tees or v-necks to help spread the word locally. Maybe as the launch date gets closer I will probably put a video up on the site a couple days before launch just to show a preview of how the site would work. (Youtube)

I cant thank you guys enough and I hope everything goes well. January will officially be the start of my marketing campaign and the end of January / Early February is my target launch period. Again, thank you all and keep the advice coming!

Yeah I am advertising in a number of design/fashion/art schools down here and I will also be written about in an online magazine. Hopefully this can also help the popularity of the website
