How to Promote a very unique product?

    Hello YE,

Can anyone give me some advice on how I should promote a very unique product in my industry? I am a wholesale/manufacturer and want to distribute to my dealers. Problem is the product is very new and dealers would like some help to sell these items.

Does anyone know how to get in contact w/ blogs, news or any media, magazines, newspapers, etc. ?

Are there any other ways of getting some legitimacy behind these products and other forms of PR/Marketing that might help?

    thanks!

If you have the budget, try to find some marketing firms in your area.
Contacting magazines, newspapers yourself is easy if you are going to place ad's. But if you want free publicity, you have to have an enticing/revolutionary product or service. Remember, as a reporter they need to draw their readers attention. So unless your product falls under this category it might be hard to get free placements in their service.

If you have the time and patience, you can just read up on how to utilize social media and do everything in house.
The 2nd method will allow you to do online press releases, create web 2.0 content to release and build traffic.

Without knowing exatcly what your product is, it is little hard to give specific advice however from the information you ahve supplied here are my 2 cents:

Find some popular blogs in your industry with a larg reader base (check their RSS subscriptions) contact the owner and ask them to do a blog post about your product, this may cost some moeny but can be very valuable.

Videos are one of the best selling and eductaional tools, second only to face to face so creating some proffessional mareting or educational videos is a great idea to help your dealers sell this unquies product.

If your product is very unioque them it might be really good for a press release, the media loving stories about things that are unique, invest in a good PR firm

Create a blog yourself, this way you can keep your dealers and customers up to date with the latest changes, etc this will also get your lots of natural search traffic too, if done correctly and consistanlty

I hope this helps, good luck

Try Press Release Submissions and writing articles. Contact local news stations and magazines to put up your ad as well. Again like everyone stated not knowing what you are promoting is very difficult for us to give you advice

I'm in the fitness wholesale business. We sell our product to retail fitness stores and gyms. I was thinking for something this new we might have to start directly selling to customers until it takes off. Basically our new line of product are platforms that move strictly up and down. In the fitness industry, there have been a flood of whole body vibration platforms, that vibrate and complement your regular workout. This is the next Generation of Whole body vibration as my platforms can be any size, and hit amplitudes that vibration platforms cannot. They can vibrate as well if you want them to.

Please help. The product is great, I just don't know how to publicize and market it.

I am actually working with a company to launch a product in women organization.

    Some general ideas:

    - Build a marketing plan (MOST IMPORTANT): Doing any of this without a planned out strategy is going to make all of this harder. You want to somehow build a marketing strategy in which all of promotions, PR, ads, and everything else comes together.
    - Build a blog kit. A blog kit will contain the product, marketing material, a story of the product and company, and why you sent this blogger the product. You will most likely have to stay with smaller blog websites (larger ones normally charge fees) and offer them to do a give away, coupon promotion, or send the blogger the product to try out in hopes they will write about. Unless you have the funds there is no promise of them writing about your product. A good idea is a trying to figure out a way to plug your product and the blog. This way they will feel like they are getting something out of it also.
    - You said you are working with resellers also. Channel promotions are important and something you should take seriously. SPIFFs (backend rebates to the reseller) are great in trying build sales with resellers. You can also try to do reseller oriented promotions.
    - Video websites. Yes how many times do you hear about using these websites but don't do the usually infocommercial youtube video. Push past customers and potential customers into publishing videos about your product with the reward of a coupon or a MIR (mail in rebate).
    - Depending on the area you live you in (smaller the better) your local newspaper can offer help. Most do pieces on new local business and entrepreneur stories. Look outside of your product and at yourself. Try to get articles on you and the story of becoming an entrepreneur. Somehow your product will get a mention.

Create a High Quality Product or Service – Promoting the quality of a product or service can be a great alternative to price for standing out from the competition. This is particularly true for small businesses that are more often owned by entrepreneurs who have creativity and drive but not financial resources. Quality issues can be determined by purchasing the products or services of competitors or gathering information from customers who did to identify ways to be better.

I would also recommend you to consider such advertizing techniques as social bookmarking sites. Try Digg for example, its audience always likes something new and unique. If this product is really successful you may get high ammounts of targeted audience from there.

You have to first educate the consumer, whoever that may be. If you product is more expensive then you need to list the many benefits your product offers that others don't. You need to set a clear expectation of what your product can offer and it's unique benefits.

I would suggest using 'niche' directories. That has worked for me in the past.

Who are your target customers? What do they read, what do they watch? Perhaps they don't read, at which point magazines are out. The point isn't to make this legitimate, it's to find your targets and sell to them. Because you've got a niche product, chances are there's someplce you can advertise that reaches most of them, but it's not going to be in general media. It would be worth going to any conventions or gatherings for the industry your product is in, with the express goal of finding out how others market to this segment. Copy their success.

If you think your product is really unique and something new and if you have the budget, the best is to have a launching of your new product. The way of launching it would greatly depend on what industry you are in. It can be a party, a parade, mall shows, etc. When you have properly launched your product, people will be aware of it. Press releases are very helpful in continuing with your campaign.
