This is a great list. Thanks.

I have had good experience with PRweb and PRNewswire and even though they can be expensive, the ROI has been good. It is important to remember that you have a have a good press release or distribution won't matter. We've used a local PR firm which was good but expensive and recently used proprcopy.com which was also good and cheaper (even better). Bottom line is spend a few bucks and have a pro create a release for your. At the very least, have someone proof the release before it gets distributed!

Thanks for the list! I've been using PRlog and Free-Press-Release and yes, it's effective around the search engines. I recommend freepressindex as well!

I was going to say it depends on your content, or the area of business that you are in, but for these general tips, it really doesn't matter what the press release is about.

First of all, unless your company is a major mover and shaker, (ie. Fortune 500, traded publicly, etc.) not many people are going to care that you've relocated, or hired a new CFO.
Second, if it's a new product (or new changes to a product) that is the focus of your press release -- even if it is an extremely awesome product -- again, not many people will care.
Third, the very common, standard press release format that I skimmed and rejected went something like this:
"Company X, a leader in innovative W production, is proud to announce the introduction of the new and improved Product Y, the best solution for G in the industry with it's M feature and L tolerance." and on it goes.
I totally agree! When I was in broadcasting, we got press releases faxed/emailed to us every day. 99.9% of them went directly in the garbage. While press releases can give you good link juice, I hate when people think that they are going to publish a press release, and, suddenly, reporters will bang on their door, put them on TV, and make them rich. It just doesn't happen!
