Ensure that when people come to your site they want to come back and even tell others about it. this should be done before you even think about SEO. It will help with back linking..you will get people who post links without you paying for back linking

I agree. Since SE has many changes once in a while. We must learn how to follow their dance step so we can always be on top. There are many certain things or techniques to do, and we must learn to find the best way to do it.

Basic stretegy is get links from as many places as you can get them and have them made over a period of time as to not alert a slap

chuff1026 hit the nail on the head. Make a quality product/service/site first, then worry about the SEO and pagerank. I spent a horrible few months working for a local SEO firm and I could not believe how many people came in with an unpromising business idea, but had no plan of how to actually operate the business or if there was even a demand for what they were trying to do! It was SO frustrating as I sure didn't get paid enough to give them business advice. I ended up quitting because the firm would take these poor suckers' money to create a website, SEO it out, then sit back and laugh while the company failed miserably. I couldn't watch that.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. Yes, create a quality business first, then venture into SEO. You can have the best pagerank ever and be #1 in Google, but if you don't have the business to back it up, it's useless.

Link Building is something that works well for me. I also like to create press releases for new products and have them released on PR Web. If done correctly, you can get some great ranking gains. Also, researching the correct keywords to focus on.
