    Facebook Advertising

    I'm interested in investing money into facebook advertising but I am wondering if any of you know the details (Price, Efficiency, Etc). Please fill me in on any information or experiences I would need to know.

    Essentially you have a budget and you say how much you are prepared to pay for each click. The good thing about Facebook is that you can target a specific demographic, like people aged 18-24 who live in Bristol, UK. There are a few Facebook vouchers knocking around for first time users so it would be worth trying to get hold of them too.

    I used facebook advertising and also myspace advertising for an affiliate product i was promoting. It was almost a year ago. I suggest spending at least $50 for the initial a campaign. No less. Track the traffic as specifically as possible, down to each keywork. Its simple, without tracking there's a 99% chance you'll fail. Its important to know where the good traffic is comming and making sales. Put more money in the keywords that are working.

    I promoted a product from clickbank on facebook. The one thing i remember about facebook was how strict facebook's ad acceptance guidelines Hopefully they changed the guidlines.

    However defineatly give facebook advertising a chance. Some products are great for facebook, while other won't stand a chance.

    I've used Facebook ads in the past and got a good response. It's good for targeting your market with their filters. CPC can be pretty high, depending on who your target market is though. It's also essential to write good, attentention grabbing headlines and ads, because most users automatically overlook the ads.

    We have done a lot of advertising with facebook and, like mentioned above, it's great because you can set your demographic. If you want 18-25 year old males in Virgina, Oregon, New York, and Texas, you can target those exact people. Plus, so many people are into their facebook that you can generally run lots of impressions before you get an actual click.... which is good for name recognition.

    The only negative I would say is that they don't have a way of tracking competition clicks. In other words, your competitors will click on your ad knowing it will cost you money. Unlike Google, Facebook doesn't track those clicks and subtract the charges. Hope that helps.

    We know that spending on social advertising is rising, but because it’s so new, the industry is still trying to figure out the most effective way to target these ads (thus why there’s still a social media monetization problem). There’s a new report though that sheds some light on how advertisers are utilizing social networks.

    The research, published by Borrell Associates (embedded below), provides projections for social networking ad spending in 2009. While the $3.2 billion being spent on the medium doesn’t surprise us, what caught our attention was this: 20% of social ads are from local businesses.

    The research report provides a projection of 2009 ad revenue in two areas: overall advertising spending and local advertising spending. The document looks at 101 different social networks, from Facebook to financial management site Wasabi. Here are the numbers that struck us most:

    1. MySpaceMySpaceMySpace leads in total ad revenue with a little over $500 million in revenue. 26% of its revenue, or $133 million, are from local advertisers.

    2. According to the report, both hi5Hi5Hi5 and FlickrFlickrFlickr earn more in total revenue than Facebook, with $430 million and $336 million respectively.

    3. FacebookFacebookFacebook may “only” make $310 million this year, but a full $229 million of that will be from local advertisers, or 74% of total revenue. That’s quite striking at first, but when you really think about it, a lot of the ads on Facebook are indeed for local venues, and Facebook makes it easy to target geographically.

    4. An oddity: the report claims that TwitterTwitterTwitter, with its 25 million users, will generate $288 million in ad revenue. The problem with this number, of course, is that Twitter has almost no advertising, and we are very curious as to how Borrell came up with this number (perhaps this is a projection of potential revenue, if Twitter were fully monetized? We’ll look into it).

    The big lesson to take from these numbers is that local advertising is alive and kicking, especially on Facebook. With such detailed information available on its members, it’s no surprise that small businesses are trying to bring locals through their doors................................
