We are blogging non-stop, talking in forums, and every other possible thing. I'm guessing this is a long process to build over time?? Could someone help me and let me know the in's and out's of building traffic. Also, let me know the easy ways of doing things, if there are any of course. Thank you!

The problem is we are in social networking, so we need to advertise that. I think people think we are another junk page when in fact we provide our customers with a free profile, url, etc.
We are different because only businesses can join and belong to our directory, but customers like me and you can get on anyone's profile to find out more about the products they sell. Whether its through reading their blogs, looking at the forums, watching videos, looking at their products or getting their personal info.
    Can you help me?

The first thing you need to do (which doesn't take u a lot of time) is change the title of your homepage. "spotabusiness.com - Home" is not a good title at all! Try to put in some of your keywords into the title.
I use Google Keyword Tool for keyword analysis.
It will help increase your ranking naturally.

Being active in business related forums such YE & StartUpNation helps a lot, as most of your target market are here (I will be registering at your website )

Other ways that I find that helps to pull in traffic is YouTube, Squidoo (make a business related lens) or if you have the time a business related blog.

You could tell everyone you know about the website. All your myspace friends, send an email to all your friends in your email address book. Be real about the email though. You don't want to make your friends mad. Like casually mention it, like the website I work for is Product Ratings | Business Reviews. A place where real life people can tell their stories. I have already put my experience about Lady of America Fitness center. I gave it a bad review because they stink at service. Then I put a great review for the xbox repair and service because they impressed me.

    Other ideas

    Search Engines
    Message Boards
    Join Related Clubs and Groups

Have enough content on it for search engines to index.
There is no such thing as failure, just learning experiences.

Great suggestions and ideas by all, but if I may add, getting traffic to your page will be irrelevant if you can't keep people there once they arrive. In my experience the best growth has been organically. It doesn't have to take a long time or cost a lot of money. Here are my suggestions in addition to the ones listed above:

    1. Focus on a specialized market (your site should be about one thing that you know well and not what you think will make you the most money). So for instance it was business related make it more specialized to whatever you know a ton about: i.e. marketing for/to women, taxes for small business start ups

    2. Pick 3-5 sites that you visit alot and contribute regularly to their blogs, forums etc meaning at least once a week or so. I log in to my social networking sites every morning for 30 minutes to do updates and such and then spend an hour in the morning or evening several times a week making posts in a few of my favorite sites. Once you have done this for about 2 mos inquire about submitting a quality professional guest blog article. In the meantime and in between time, write articles related to what you do and submit them to high traffic free article directories such as ezinearticles dot come or ideamarketers dot com

    3. Content is king....and make sure your presentation does not royally screw you! Not only must you spend time creating valuable content regularly that people will find useful, more importantly, make sure your presentation aligns with your content. Hire a professional designer if you must through a freelance site such as elance dot com or guru dot com The few hundred dollars you invest will be very well worth it. If you have a busy homemade site full of ads and flashy affiliate links you are not going to get quality visitors who are going to stay on your site nor are you going to attract quality advertisers.

Looking at your site it looks professional, I just don't understand what the benefit of it is. What might be an advantage or a few tips for someone wondering how they can benefit. Maybe on the home page you can write tips step by step of how it would be useful. And along the sidebars or somewhere on the front page maybe you can include some testimonials such as a few of your members who have gotten good exposure or had success with your site (increased traffic to their site, closed a deal, created a business venture, etc.)

    Hope this helps a little.

    Best of luck.

    Shonika

Just to reiterate what TeenBizCoach said, you need to be aware of your benefits.

The fact that you're a social networking site is only a feature. You need to establish exactly what is in it for people to register to your site before you can start doing anything else.

Then, this will drive all the content you create from then on.

I would also focus on creating some type of incentive system since social networking sites are becoming overwhelming right now- it's a lot of work to keep up with them in the right ways that actually help. Create a reason why someone would choose your site over all the others.
