Question What type of printed marketing collateral do you prefer?

As far as introducing a new product or service, what printed materials are you most likely to look at?

    1/2 sheet flyers
    Full sheet flyers
    Tri-fold brochures
    Booklets
    Full folder presentations
    Newsletters
    Something else?

What types of printed marketing pieces do you prefer to receive?
    What grabs your attention more?
What have you had the best results with in your own business?

A well-designed business card with an awesome hook really catches my eye. I honestly can't think of the last time any other type of marketing collateral did the same. To be frank, I see flyers and such as a huge waste of paper and a source of clutter (for me!) and so just disregard them altogether in great disgust. But, considering your list, I must say that full folder presentations would strike me as having the highest impact and would alert me to its being a serious presentation worthy of at least a few minutes of my attention.

Flashy colors and great hooks grab my attention. I'll admit - I'm a sucker for tacky! :P

I just don't use printed materials at all anymore in my Internet businesses. For the b&m business I manage, I stick with "fact sheets" that are personally delivered to prospects. Funny thing, these are most akin to flyers, but I guess I consider them more useful because they are specifically targeted to each prospect. I can't really say they've been effective, however, and I am re-evaluating how we'll approach our prospects for this business in the future.

I still prefer to have something written (collateral) unless the business card and full tell me what your product does and how it can make my life better. If using flyers or any other collateral, make it clean and simple. Try to get the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How in there as simply as possible, focusing on how your product can make your customer's life better and fulfill their needs. Don't put all of that mumbo jumbo in there about what your product does. Show your customer how it will benefit them so that they can answer the "what's in it for me?" (Typically you can't get that point across with just a business card.)

FYI: if you are going to print brochures, check out GotPrint. They have great pricing and their work is really good.
