When in 1997-1998 Internet went mainstream for Web Designers to play, who put their “About Us, Products, Services” buttons left side to the screen to be most inconvenient for right handed persons to use, I was more interested online sales tactics.
I found Corey Rudey who had successfully tested his “Car Secret Revealed” book sales online and established Internet Marketing Centre to sell his experiences as Internet Marketing Course in 1998.
We had only 64 people then listening.
Corey’s basics where:
1. People are looking information on the internet, not products.
2. You have 5-10 seconds to impress visitor is your site what he was looking for.
3. Average visitor will spend 20-40 seconds in your page, that’s the time to convince him/her to buy.
4. Use step by step arguments to convince visitor. Use testimonials (I used facts or comparison data) to support your arguments.
5. After every step offer the purchase option.
6. By the end of the steps try to capture visitors e-mail. Otherwise he or she will be lost forever.
They claimed 25%-45% sales conversion rate, however I was able to reach around 10% being their affiliate.
Since 2000 I had different interests and when I again met Internet Marketing Center in their Bootcamp in London 2005 there where over 2000 people listening. Corey had died and his friend Derek had taken over the company. They had become one of the most successful Internet affiliate programs having over 300 Internet Consultants working and testing different marketing strategies.
Does anyone know or have tested alternative online sales strategies with success?
