I use blogs to create traffic to website that actually make me money. So I guess I can answer your question in reverse. I have a bunch of small websites that make me about $15 a week. So what I do to increase traffic to them is I blog about them thus creating links to the website I want to increase traffic to, then I counter link each of the websites through each other, then I add facebook ads in facebook to them. I go on digg and blog comment back on diggs and post a reply link back to my site, thus building your own links like this is hard and time consuming but if you can understand how digg is helping the web buy organically building thousands of links each day to help every site that it comes in contact with.

if you want serious traffic, you need check your industry your competition, your keyword phrases you want to rank for, pm me if you need traffic but this is long term process any company tells you they will guarantee or get you massive traffic 1 month or less is lying.
