So has anyone used flyers effectively?

I'm promoting a local social networking site and I was wondering if anyone has ever used flyers before and if they were effective. good ROI? I've done some searching and some say it works others say it doesn't. Just wanted to hear what you guy's thought.

    I appreciate the help.

For a social networking site, I don't think flyers would work. Flyers usually work for local stores around the area and include coupons. As for online stores and services, flyers don't quite work as effectively.

If your target market are students and young professionals, try asking trendy shops and cafes if you can put up a poster or have your business card near the counter. You can also try to advertise in niche magazines or student publications.

Also affliate your site with blogs and websites that are relevant to your target market.

Thanks for the insight. I think tomorrow I'll go around and talk to the schools newspaper staff. I've got a local student lunch spot to allow me to put up a poster and keep flyers close to her counter as long as I promote her shop on the website.

My niche is only local so I didn't do adwords or anything like that. Plus I sell Clothing from the site. hmm I wonder if I give discounts for clothing on the flyers. could work... I'll give it a try.

Sounds like you're on to something. Discounts are always good and does attract people to have a look at your site.

Is your site up and running yet? You should post it up or have it in your signature.

    Good luck with your idea!

I think that fliers are a great way to market! Me and my brother are actually part of a social networking site, and we put up fliers in the local grocery stores with the little pull off tabs so people could take the information with them. It's good with a networking site too, because we needed something to catch people's eyes, so we used bright paper, and put the "myspace" and "facebook" logos on the top real big.... so people would be able to connect with it, and see something familiar.
    Best of luck!

It's my idea also to promote my picture dating community social networking site using flyers. Even those do not cost much, the ditribution will be a problem as my idea is to put those UK cities university campuses and colleges noticeboards.
Doing it locally will be much less costly.

if you pass flyers out among the right people it can be beneficial as long as what you are providing peeks their interest. a college would be a great place to pass out flyers, but i would keep the flyers simple and fun and i'd have a 'hook' in there that entices them to check out the site.

Never, ever, ever ,ever ,ever do flyers... enless you own a club.

It is the most RETARTED way of advertising... it takes up TIME.. and half the people jus tthrow it out less then a minuet of holding it... without even paying attention to the content.

There are so many other ways of advertising that would be more successfull then flyers.

I say you should stick to your medium. If you have a website, stay where your users are - online. Geo-targeting is pretty powerful today, so you can probably use Google Adwords to limit advertising down right to your town.

It depends on how you look at it.

One of my online business requires heavy advertising and the targeted market could not be reached by just sourcing out from online networks. So what I did was to make the flyers my business and educate them to go online. Its a hard approach but it does produces results. Every time I send out a flyer, I would be getting 20-50 subscribers to my auto-responder.

You don't have to pay for the flyers. Get someone else to pay for it.
For an A5 flyer, on one side I would place my business adverts while the other side I put my advertisers adverts. I get them to pay $10 to $100 depending on the size of the advert. So yup I didn't have to fork out any money for advertising..Just the effort to design and get the advertisers and the distribution..

I always believe that we can make money out of crazy ideas. So here's one of it.

Flyers are one of those marketing methods that is truly a numbers game. The more you pass out, the higher the chance of someone actually reading it. I find it very time consuming and not worth while. Also it really depends on what kind of business you are in. If you are in the entertainment or food business then you might find a higher ROI on it.

We'll my demographic is the younger audience. We also promote local events at nightclubs and entertainment venues if you want to check out my site its in my sig. Oh and thanks for the suggestions everyone... so far my flyers themselves haven't been very effective, but I did manage to get other people talking about us because they saw us in the mall. We broke 100 members but still haven't had any sales yet. Any tips on reeling in that first sale?

Flyers can be effective. Let me rephase that...very effective to advertise and get parties interested. The main aspect to focus on is your delivery. Select the proper invironment to hand them out in. Scince your theme is social networking, try to hand them out at social events...ie church, school function, and other social organizations. I hope this helps in your cause. Have a great endeavor and good luck.
