    Seo

I know nothing about SEO. I just requested a quote from a company and was told it would be $1500/month. Is this normal? If not, what sites do you recommend for a startup with a limited budget?

Yes SEO Moz is a great tool for the do it yourselfer. I just started doing some joint work with a very reasonable company called Netmark Esstentials.

You should give them a call, their prices are pretty good, and they are taking some of my work load off of my hands and I will still make a return becuase they are fairly inexpensive and get the job done.

I also believe they are launching a UK office within the next coupld of weeks too.

SEO Advice - available free online

If you are new to SEO, I would try some of the free tutorials that can be found at youtube. Our web designers have advised that placement of backlinks in relevant websites will significantly help to improve your Google ranking. Using automated means to distribute your name artificially can sometimes end up with your site removed from Google.

It is possible to do it all yourself, but it will take months for you to see any real difference.

Most SEO places are ripoffs. It is a snakeoil business, i know I sell it. While a company can point you in the right direction, it's best to learn the stuff youself... Bottom line? Create good content and tell people about it!

I think you should learn yourself.. You really have to manage it yourself. If its done correctly, it takes a long time...so it may be difficult to pay somebody over this period

    Diy seo

I have had great success with SEO. It takes time and effort but does pay off. My two best sources for learning SEO are:
    • High Ranking Advisor
    • Site Pro News

I have been subscribing to their newsletters for years.

    I would:

    1. Do some general research on seo techniques
    2. Make sure you have the means to assess results - eg web statistics from before and after seo work.
    3. Keyword research - both popularity and competition - to choose keywords and phrases to target
    4. Build some inward links pointing to your website - using your keywords where possible.
    5. Make sure the text, image and meta tags on your website include your keywords and are relevant to them.
    6. Wait a month or so and then look at your web statistics.

Google Analytics is great for stats.
AWStats is also good and included with many hosting packages.

    Good luck!

    Hello
Try and shop around as many writers focus on a particular type of copy writing or subject matter. Make sure that the person you are hiring has some experience in the type of writing you are looking for. Always ask to see their portfolio for examples of their writing.
Be willing to pay for a quality writer! Although there are copywriters out there that are new to the business and will charge pennies on the dollar for your writing assignments, don’t hire based on price alone. If you need to add value to your business then you should be prepared to pay a reasonable price for such quality copy writing.
One surefire way of knowing if you are dealing with a professional SEO copywriter is if they present you with a lot of questions.
