Selling 101

"Big promises": treating people with respect, improving self-esteem, delivering results, contacting as often as you say you will but not more, including side effects in your planning, delivering joy, meeting spec, being on time, connecting people to one another, delivering consistency, offering value and on and on. Caring. The stories involved in your promises matter. That's often what people are buying.

Discuss do you agree or disagree? I just read it and I thought it was pretty good at summing up everything.

I like this, where did you find it?

Many people see "selling" as pushing something down another persons throat. The truth is that the art of selling is so much more. With great sales ability comes great responsiblity; Good sales people can be dangerous if they use their skills to do harm. So this article you found really sums up all the jobs/roles of the salesperson.

yeah it is funny how people don't realize that they are essentially building a bond, that is almost priceless in terms of referrals etc

I agree. I am a Real Estate agent and I am a very empathetic, no pressure person. I am more interested in building a friendship which makes the business relationship more "sticky" however, I just now ran into a problem. I am working for a Developer who is extremely pushy. Every time we get an offer he wants to counter back with something. Even if the offer is full price, he wants to counter back with more down payment money or fewer days to wait until the sell closes. Then he makes me go back to that person and tell them that if they don't buy it now, we have someone else that is about to put an offer on it. His commands go against my character, BUT he can make me a lot of money. I am learning quickly that I would rather have friends, be happy, and content, than make a lot of money by threatening or making a buyer feel uncomfortable. Any suggestions, agreeances or disagreements are invited.
