[Question/Discussion] Average Time on Site vs Sales

I have always wonder on this and been searching for the reasoning to GA. One part of it that I do not have a answer on are Average Time on Site.

In general:
More time spent on a store (offline) = More sales made

However if you bring the case to online:
Its about speed and ease of navigation which lead to faster purchases using faster check out method.

So do we want to make the customer stay longer abolishing the faster purchases or push for faster checkout ignoring the data received on GA on ATOS. Any feedback are welcome on this. Thanks.

As a customer I prefer web sites that are easy to navigate with relatively simple way to checkout and easy procedures for buying.

This is why i bring this up. Customer love better navigation and easier check out. But at the same time we might want to make them stay longer. Those 2 thing contrast to each other. Maybe someone got a different view on this and would love to share especially some of the online marketing gurus that reside on this forum.

Depends on what you're selling. If you're selling popular items people know about already, they would prefer the quick check out method as they've probably done their research on other sites.

If the item is relatively new, unique or quirky, people would want to know more about it, have comparisons and read customer reviews.

A great tool to get people to stay on your site longer, is to have interesting news relating to the industry that gets updated frequently. This also increases the amount of people who would add your site to favourites and constantly come back.
