500 sites would be near impossible ot manage on your own. And for $500 a day? Not worth it.

I can pump small sites out fast and write automation for them so they self-manage. If you have ideas how to creatively auto-populate a page and make it both relevant for the user and the search eninges, but don't know how to build it, PM me. I have been templating small CMS systems (NOT theming, templating the architecture) that can be built cheaply with all the CMS options you need.

Couldn't have said it better my self.. Think about that for one minute think about what your saying, " 5 0 0 " websites that make a $1.... It sounds nice but easier said then done..

Why not make 2 websites that make 250$ a day ? or 20 that make 25$ a day anyone of those options would be a million times better cheaper and faster then making 500 websites.. Even 500 of the shittiest websites in the world would cost you more money in time alone to ever be worth it..

Me personally, i would go with a few high traffic sites.

It might be smarter (and easier) to have one really good blog linked to a variety of landing pages that very closely target specific searchers.

For instance, I write a blog about marketing on a very limited budget called $mart Marketing on any Budget. I work hard to keep the updates fresh, relevant and useful for all marketers. That's the heart of my effort.

But I will soon be developing different landing pages aimed at the specific marketing needs of doctors and dentists, one for real estate and insurance agents, maybe one for non-profits and so on.

That way, you get the value of solid content combined with a very targeted reader acquisition process.

    Question:

Think 3 years from now. Will the 500 minisites still be viable?
Rotate those with low/no interest out and add others?

How dramatic will search engines change the game (their goal is to provide good search results ... better and better)

If you build quality and create a reputation... they will grow and be relevant, even during the changes.

The question is EXCELLENT since it challenges us to think: "what will I build/create that will be for today vs. what will offer income potential for years?"

    thank you!

Hi Guys and Gals, - Wait a minute, I have read this entire post - Who said the minisites have to be shitty looking to begin with?

I have sites that have 100+ Pages making mere dollars a month and I have 3 page sites making hundreds. Who would really care if you are making 500 a day ? For one or two sites to make 500 a day - lol.. Thats tougher than you think unless you have some sort of HOT product inventory or are you are into adult.

We were also talking startup werent we? I would much rather pay a freelance designer in say India 15.00 X 500 = 7500 and then pay a handful of writers to fill the sites with content for 2500.00- Im in for 10,000 and I break even after 20 days if the dollar a day analysis is correct.

Way riskier to spend 10,000 on a bright idea and expect some return faster than a buck a day. I have to say 500 minisites is not a terrible idea.

    ^^^^ Good Advice^^^^

I would strongly suggest everyone think bigger - And a lot of the comments were pretty negative - " Managing would be HARD, 500 is a lot, etc" ... Man, I'd kill 500 websites and manage them all myself. Stop with the "I cant"

But diversify your portfolio - 10 Quality , 500 shitty That makes the most sense.

I know a venture capitalist in Europe who also runs a network of websites. He has 200 websites, each about a celebrity. Some make 50 cents to a dollar a day and then the ones about very famous celebrities (ie Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan) make a few dollars a day. I'd imagine it's a lot of working keeping the sites going. It wouldn't be for me. Why spend all that time doing that for at most a lousy thousand bucks per day?

Remember that the domain registration on 500 mini sites would cost 5K. I think putting the time and effort into building about 5 or less good quality sites is a better idea.
