Need a lot of traffic!

I have a website at webepags.com that allows people to build custom web pages. A lot of people whom have looked at it said that it seems crippled down, but it lets people embed html code for things like images and videos, allows people control over the background color, fonts, font colors, and font sizes. Coming soon is a way for people to control the background color on each element of the page (title and body), and a way for people to add tables, and also a way for people to create their own widgets. What else do I need to add to it to make it better? I've been able to create some nice web pages when I was just messing around and testing the site.

What can I do to get the thing going virally and get some good, loyal traffic? Right now, I've been able to get a few visitors that randomly find it. But, I would like to make my site very popular through some free methods. I have been using social sites to promote it. Search Engine Optimization is not possible as there is not yet enough content in the site for it to be search engine worthy. So, I need to promote it virally. Also, how can I get people addicted to the site?

It sounds like you need to find a way to target people who don't know a lot about web design - people who would find your simple tools useful and not crippling. You might even consider a print ad campaign where you put up fliers around your town and neighboring city, send letters to friends and family throughout the country and ask them to spread the word. If you describe your site as "the place for people who don't want to worry about building their first webpage" and show some examples of how people can use it (family photos, trip blog, knitting samples, etc).

Online competition is really fierce and people who know about the internet might just pass over a site like yours. Try to go for people who want to learn more but aren't sure how.

Here's a thought, webpages. We all know that content is king when it comes to the search engines. They will be your best bet for attracting quality, targeted traffic. So the more you can do to get content on your site, the better off you'll be. Here are some suggestions for easy ways to do this.

If you don't have a blog, and if your host/content management system allows one, you need to get one going. Whatever your area of expertise is, you'll benefit from writing about it often. This will increase the content on your site little by little, and provide a way for your visitors to connect and relate to you on a more personal level. Blogging is also one of the best ways to market your site virally. You may have noticed the icons underneath each post here on Young Entrepreneurs. Those icons allow anyone to send any post on this site to the major social bookmarking sites, which places it in front of thousands of other readers. Blogs also allow this. Writing unique, informative posts and doing your part to syndicate your blog across the web (Technorati, the green icon, is a great way to do this) will help to start the viral process. Then, as others see value in your blog posts, they'll continue the distribution, refer to your blog posts on their own blogs etc. The possibilities are endless with this! The other thing to remember with blogs is to make sure your RSS or Atom feed is clearly visible (some folks include it at the end of every post). Readers can easily add your blog's feed to their feed reader of choice (mine is Google Reader), and from there can share it with their friends. Social bookmarking and the use of RSS/Atom feeds make it super easy to build viral traffic to your blog and site!

Next, why not try creating some free reports that involve your area of expertise? Creating free reports and hosting them on your website will help you to build an opt-in list, build a relationship with your list and site visitors, and get the whole viral marketing effect going. There is a brand new site called ButterflyReports.com which allows you to submit your own reports to the community for free, with alll of your branding etc. attached. Affiliates in the community can make money by distributing your report and referring others to the site. So when you create a report, and an affiliate downloads that report, their affiliate links are attached so that they can benefit from distributing your report. This is one of the best ways to market your service, product or site virally. You'll have an army of affiliates promoting your content for you, which will link back to your website and drive more targeted traffic because those who visit from your report liked what you had to say or what advice or solution you had to offer. It will also help you to build credibility in your niche, while contributing to the content on your site and building an opt-in list. This method and site help you to kill a few birds with one stone!

Likewise, writing and submitting articles for online use is another great way to build viral traffic and also credibility. Your articles can be linked back to your website, bringing in yet more targeted traffic. Online article hubs are often visited by others looking to add relevant content to their own sites and blogs. Because of this, and because most article hubs make great use of social bookmarking, articles find their way across the Internet on their own just from you submitting them one time. I use a software called Article Submitter whenever I'm out to create & distribute articles. I like the software because with one click, and can submit my articles to hundreds of other sites, even choose which niches etc. I want to submit to. This makes the process super easy, and the only time I spent was time writing & perfecting my article!

You don't have to be a great writer to benefit from the above methods. You just need knowledge of a particular industry or niche, and you need to be able to write out advice or a solution to an issue in that niche that will really help others. When you give a little, you get a lot back!

Good luck to you, hope that gives some ideas!
