I have been running an online retail business for a few months now. I am lucky in that I have an alternative income, as so far, I am struggling to get enough visitors to make it worthwhile.

Visitors I do have have generally liked the design and functionality (although I do have some suggestions to work on), and given the low traffic, my conversion ratio is actually good. All of this suggests that I just need more people to know about it (not an uncommon problem I imagine!!).

On the internet side, I have submitted to about 200 directories, have a priority listing on Scoot and have numerous successful art profiling sites which generate some traffic. Although an amateur I've also done things with stumbleupon, digg, delicious etc.

On the traditional side, I've had a free article in a local newspaper, and taken my work to various galleries, fairs etc.

I know there's no one solution, but does anyone have any suggestions for low cost activities that have worked for them, perhaps if you have been in a similar situation?
