IT Consulting Marketing - Tips And Suggestions?

I currently help run a small IT consulting company based in Seattle and I am in the process of growing the business.

I have some great marketing ideas but was wondering what you guys thought.

I'm guessing there's probably at least a handful of people on here who earn money through IT Consulting or related fields and I would love to hear what has worked for you.

My Target Market:
Small and Medium Sized Businesses

My Target Demographic:
Business owner
In Greater Seattle area
30-65 years old
80% Male/20% Female

We can handle pretty much any kind of mainstream technical problem or task as well as a variety of specialized tasks and also develop software.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Build a content rich website filled with articles, information, and resources that would benefit your target market. Recycle some of your content by regularly submitting them to various article directories found thoughout the Internet.

All the best,

Ledward

Thanks for the suggestion. That is actually my main idea for promoting the business. I will be posting up a blog and contributing frequently to it discussing pertinent issues that our clients typically face.

Didn't think to submit them to article directories so I will definitely add that into the plan.

Any other suggestions?

I would say the best way to market is through your customers. If you deliver a project, you can ask them for a testimonial. Maybe even provide them with a template for it. You can also ask them (especially since it is small and medium business) if they know a firm or a friend that they would recommend you to.

Most customers are more than willing to do this for you if you deliver good quality service. It is the least expensive (also in terms of time) and highest yielding technique that I know of.

The blog is fine, but I think you won't get many clients through it in the short run. I would view it more as an extra marketing tool to show people you know your stuff. In the long run, when you have many visitors, you might be able to get clients through there more easily. In the beginning it would probably take too much time per prospect.

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

There are many business directories where you can find company information. But most of them aren’t updated on a regular basis. Their database is quite reliable. We’ve been using some of their other services as well. Take a look at their website. I’m sure you’ll find it helpful.
