One thing you can do immediately is add a signiture to your profile on these forums and include a link to your website. Much of Google's PageRank technology is based on quality backlinks to your website.

I've seen a lot of good replies here but maybe if you told us more about what you are trying to sell and where- we could try and give ideas that are more specific. And if you do - add your website URL to your signature as posting in forum is a good source of links (but not the best source).

You could advertise your products for free in google base base.google.com ]which will be listed in the google -> shopping category. Also the normal google search results for specific products will include three links from the google base products. So this is one of the easiest way to get your links come in the first pages of google. If the bounce rate is small, then this would add to your page rank.

It's not just PR that counts when it comes to backlinks.

You need links from site with content that is relevant to your site...

You will need to optimize your website so that it achieves good search results (in Google, Yahoo, etc..)

If you're targeting visitors in your vicinity... ie, in a specific geographical area, it will make the optimization process much easier and you should be able to achieve good result... obviously depending on how competitive the online market is for you industry.

You may try to write articles(with some anchor text) by yourselft then post to article directory. And submit your site to some free business directory for links.
