The internet diamond market is pretty competitive but that doesn't mean it can't be done successfully. Depends on the diamonds you are selling and the time you are willing to invest...
A good place on the internet right now to market diamonds that isn't overloaded is with these "wedding vendor web sites". they usually offer to give you a free listing and if you pay some $ they will beef up your ad... I've never personally paid money for advertising on one of these but I did get a free listing on a couple... but, I'm not a big fan of selling wedding rings anyway... but we still get notifications that someone is interested and a letter from time to time from some young girl who just got engaged and want's a quote on a wedding ring... (wedding in 4 or 5 years usually) so, it works... technically.
for selling diamonds, i'd think you would stand a good chance on these sites.
If you are selling more serious diamonds, you would want to go to the diamond forums like "diamondring.com or pricescope and take a look at what all the internet diamond pros are ddoing... start chatting it up on the forum and jump into that fray.
Your cousin has been selling diamonds so most of his suppliers and organizations (gia or whom ever he is associated with) all have web sites and all he needs to do is ask to get listed. I've never actually did this but some of our suppliers just listed us as a courtesy.
Or, if he is doing good on e-bay, than focus your efforts on that market and build on it.
Send me a link to your site when you get it going and best of luck.
Haha well one way, you just said it. EBAY.
If someone buys lets say a loose diamond, in the description you shoudl have your site all over the place so when someone says, "wow! where did you get that diamond" instead of saying, "Ohh, i bought it off ebay" Imsure they will say, "This diamond website, would you like the link?."
Even if someone doesnt happen to buy the diamond, and they look. Lets say there are 500 people who did this. Your getting 500 advertisements DIRECTED twoards your demographic, for your list price. Its the cheapest way to effectivley advertise!
On the other hand you could read some articles about search engine "optimization" <--- I think i spelt that right? Learning about how to get your page rank up there is critical.
Although someone thinks 'advertising' via auctions on eBay is a good idea, it's not the best way to advertise. Obviously if you're selling a lot on eBay and have a good reputation, having a link, logo, etc on the auction would be the obvious thing to do. However, if he's looking to have a great website, he'd want to consider a professional designer/developer. Cost? For a comprehensive e-commerce site, from a reputable developer, you're looking at a few grand and up. Do NOT go with the low-ball price... you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to web design. Evaluate portfolios and interview your web design company. It'll be the single most important decision of going online.
it's a good idea of your not trying to maintain a name brand or you don't mind dealing with the other baggage that comes along with it... the cheap skates and bargain hunters... the scams and spams, the tos and (the list goes on)
I've never sold anything on e-bay but i did make an attempt once and realized right away it wasn't for our business model,,, I wouldn't automatically oppose right away or dismiss the idea of giving some e-bay pro some exclusive branding and marketing right's but to have to personally deal with a hundred tire kickers and bargain hunters is not only time consuming but doesn't match my skill set.
If you are selling diamonds or practically anything that hs real value, they are going to cut your profit margin down to the nubs... is that the kind of business you are hoping to attract? that is really in my opinion one of the worst places to sell something like diamonds and, make a profit. but, you say it is already working... sales "AND" profits?
As you can tell, i'm not a fan of e-bay but, we do have some products that would fit right in and who knows, with the right marketing, some serious profits.?
Why not develope the website. Hire a professional Search Engine Optimizer, do proper keyword research and optimize your website for Search Engines. You don't need Ebay, sales comes to youbut please keep in mind, Search Engine Optimization will only help if your website has a good usability and clean design.
A very good cart script is prostore by Ebay if you want to try it.
Thanks

I think send the email about the latest style to your target customers may work and can increase the traffic of the website.
I agree, in order to be successful on the web, you need a well developed, clean and professional website. You can drive as many people as you like to your site, but if it doesn't look creditable, nothing will turn into leads. Visit my company website and see if you like my work. If so, you can contact me through my site and I would be more than happy to assist you.
