How to produce a major boost in visitors?

Hello Marketers,

This is a question I´ve had for a while as I am still not aware of the cause and effect factors that lead to a major boost in traffic for an established website.

I´ll put it this way. There is a site getting 10,000 visitors per month. It is a good site. Fresh content, updated information, good connection between admin and current visitors (which are mostly returning ones). Basically its a very nice website which has been well taken care of. What I want to know is what strategy or series of actions must I take to move from those 10,000 uv´s per month to 50,000 per week. I am thinking about this happening from one week to another and in a period of about 2 months (2 scenarios). I´ll be looking forward to your answers. Thanks in advance.

Maybe you want to try getting prolific bloggers to review you like I Make Money Online by Telling People How Much Money I Make Online - John Chow dot Com or problogger.net. They can really bring in trafffic. They dont come cheap though..Its 4-5K per advert for one month. But they can really drive traffic to your site.

At this stage you should be making money already if you ever monetize your site. So reinvest back the money you make.

Have you tried Pay Per Post?

Well, John's and Darren's site are ok if you have a money making service or blog, but it depends on the actual site. If you have something for example for freelancers and small business, Freelance Switch or Freelance Folder are a far better option. At Freelance Switch (which I write for) you can get an add for 750$ a month and the site has over 10k subscribers. A friend who founded ActiveCollab said he's really happy with the ROI from the niche freelance sites.

Basically, my point is that IMHO it's better to either advertise or communicate with the more popular niche blogs than most of the smaller one's at PayPerPost. I'd rather for example guest post (if you have a good idea for an article for Freelance Switch) at a good blog (and yes, top bloggers are looking for guest posters) than advertise via PayPerPost. Why? It builds authority, can get you some nice backlinks and a lot of more traffic since you're providing value.

Also, how much of your traffic comes from the SERPs and have you optimized for the SEs? If not, you should get someone to optimize your site in order to get some organic traffic. The traffic will depend on your niche obviously, but if you have the content you say you do, a good SEO campaign can increase your organic traffic by 20-30% easily.

You should also consider if your traffic is fit for social media sites. By this I mean both social bookmarking (Del.icio.us, etc.) and news sites. You can do some nice link building with social bookmarking, but if you're planning on going to the social news sites, you will have to make your content appeal to them. To get on Digg for example you need both the help of a top digger, optimized content and targeted content, as well as your little digg crew to get the thing going. If you have a niche site who's niche has it's own social news site (I can tell you some depending on the niche), it may be worth the effort.
