How do i go from here? What is my next step? Advices needed.

Hi we are a group of students of 4 and we came out some excellent idea that could be bought to web. But because we came from some science course and we have no knowledge on webpage designing.

So may i ask, what is my next step from here? What would people who face the same problem like us do? Do they normally hire some webpage designer and pay them an amount for service? What it the idea fail and we cant get back the money invested? Is this what they call 'risk in investment'?

But i'm thinking the idea we as a group came out is good because we have done research on the net and no one else had done it. If say, a webpage designer could be hired, would he steal our idea? Are there any other issues that may arise? Or do experienced individuals have any other advices to add on for newbie like me?

Thanks alot!

Hi-

The following are just a few things you can do:

1. Go out to craigslist and look at resumes to find freelancers or those looking to become a part of a projects

2. eLancer: 21st Century Freelance == E.L.A.N.C.E.R. == is a site in which you can place your project out there and freelance designers will "bid" on it and you can see who will do what for what price

3. You can offer sweat equity in exchange for work done for the site. Should you want to become an LLC, you can offer a CTO/Web Design Manager position, and have this person earn equity in the company via their work on all things related to web design and tech issues. (This would require more well planned out and defined contract/membership terms & agreements)

I have done all three above. One of my LLCs I found my CTO on craigs and he has been phenomenal and I am glad I went about it with sweat equity as it was a very involved site that would be expensive if paid hourly.

Another LLC I am involved in found the freelancer through elancer and everything is moving along smoothly.

Now, to prevent "idea theft"…you can draft an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) that they have to bind themselves to PRIOR to getting too in depth with your idea. There are templates out there, if your issue is generic and you just want protection that says "don't share this or develop this on your own". But if you are dealing with a "next Google" idea, I would consult an attorney or your local SBA/SCORE office for the best way to legally protect yourself.

Hope this helps.

i agree, use elance.com or odesk.com to hire someone from India or abroad. i have worked with people in india and they seem trustworthy. if your idea is the next big thing then don't tell them exactly what you are doing. have them build the site the way that you need it to work/run but don't put any content in there so they won't exactly know what it is you are doing.

A NDA won't work much under India law. The one for India and US is a International Something. I can't remember right now.

The tips they provided are good. But now I see is a group of 4 so I guess you guys want to keep the control on the 4 of you. Then you will need to deal nationally where a NDA will work. Remember a designer is never a top notch developer and a developer is never a top notch designer. A coder can learn design and a designer can learn code but either he is strong on one not both.
