How do I find advertisers?

I intend to start a company which will provide a unique way of advertising to the younger generation. Without giving away too many details, it would involve:

1. Advertiser pays me
2. I pay owner of a location to place these adverts there.

I don't expect having a problem finding locations based on my initial research. However finding advertisers might be more difficult. My question is: Where do I find advertisers?

Do I just start approaching large companies with my proposal? Also, in this situation is it best to secure advertisers first or secure locations first? What sort of things do I have to watch out for when dealing with large companies like this?

My interpretation of your post suggests that you don't know how to sell your unique service but you've determined that there is a need for it.

Business models exist to address needs of a particular market segment, so I recommend starting there. Ask around and see if companies are interested in your unique service.

If you don't know how to sell to them I'd be concerned that you could get advertising space.

I don't mean to sound critical but I think it's good info to know.

My #1 recommend is to re-evaluate why you created this service and contact media buyers at different companies. Survey their interest but don't present it as a typical survey. Find out their interest by asking a couple questions over the phone, follow up later in the week with an email thank you and let them know that their responses will be taken into consideration. After you've built your model or proposal, call up the media buyers and ask them if they would like to take a moment to comment on your model or ask if it is something they would consider using for their own company. And remember to let them know just how much you appreciate their input.

What this does is it lets you know what your consumer is looking for, builds ownership and gives you sales leads.

Also, do not give away your idea, just ask questions, even a question that doesn't correspond with something your service will feature is fine.

Best of luck.
