Finally got a popular digg!

www.nospintalk.com - With Vista's View Getting Dimmer, Should You Give Linux A Chance? got 627 diggs (so far) and I got 8,500+ uniques to the site from it. If you've read my other posts, I've been working on building traffic for free... month 1 ... almost nil. About 600 uniques the whole month. Month 2... 9000 uniques.. today... almost 9000 uniques

the digg thing I've been working on, I have about 115 digg friends, and I took a few days to figure out how to pick better digg friends after I got about 200 friends that weren't worth squat

then I realized that diggers who are your friends don't count for as much as those who aren't, so it's better to build shout rings. Instead of having friends digg, have them shout. They can still digg, but it's nowhere near as important.

That was the major help. I've been staying more away from friends on the site and using the ones in a small digg ring. If I shout a submission and get it to say 90 of my friends and 10 of them will shout it to another 100 people each, it works a lot better.

Listen, there may be better ways to do it, this is only my second digg that got popular. I'm still on the learning curve, but I can tell you that my story today has made it on to over 50 links around the net, which is an even better thing than the now 9500+ uniques to the site today. Maybe I won't get 9500 every day, but if it helped me get an extra 100 daily and I can build on that in a year that'd be 36,000 uniques a month plus whatever else I use (and trust me, I've been using everything I can think of)

The best thing is also to have stumble, reddit, furl, del.icio.us and other social bookmark friends.

If you want to see the article, its on the front page of my site. If you want to see the other popular digg just go to the site and look up "arnold", it's a video of the cali gov admitting to smoking pot.

I can tell you that 3 months into this, I'm getting pretty happy about not spending any money except hosting and the $40 I blew trying to get traffic from trafficdart.com and immensehits.com (both scammed me, btw - disputed with paypal currently)

How do you go about in finding the right friends on Digg? I have a few Digg articles where stats show that people do read it, but no one diggs it! :/

What an inspired experience from you!

The 50 links here means the link back? If yes, then I think the true value of digg is not the spike of traffic but its potential to let you expose your article and get more back link which I think is more important.

Nice job. One time I had an article hit front page on digg, and I got 40,000 uniques my first day. Too bad my site was poorly monetized so I only made 40 bucks off of it.
