Do you agree with the "Marketing Mix Delusion"?

I think many entrepreneurs take on too many marketing activities at the start. They spread their resources too thin and don't get enough traction. Entrepreneurs like us don't have the time and money to utilize all marketing avenues available. I think entrepreneurs should focus on the cheapest and most beneficial marketing opportunity. In other words, start with Internet marketing and get it right first before looking at other methods.

    I blogged about it recently.

    What do you think?

I think you are right in terms of people trying to do everything minimally vs. one thing great. So many people want to jump into things because it's the latest trend, not because it works. You have to find what works for your business and then expand upon that to another channel.

As for starting with internet marketing...I sort of agree with this in terms of getting a website up and optimized. But the best marketing strategy can vary by industry. A realtor isn't necessarily going to be successful on the web. Their focus may start elsewhere.

    Nice blog post btw

You're talking a lot about free marketing but I've never found any kind of marketing to be free.

Marketing either costs you money or time.

Problem with most small business marketing is they don't measure response and most of the marketing they put out is image and brand focused - there is no offer just a list of services and a phone number.

I don't think the issue is free advertising vs paid advertising. It's just how you work it.

If you want to be insanely rich, create and control markets.
