Instead of Adwords you can use a second or third tier program that is cheaper such as Bidvertiser or Searchfeed. The traffic may not be as targeted but it is much cheaper for those with smaller budgets. Otherwise, articles, blogs, message boards, directories, write press releases and do social media and you should be good to go.

    Interesting,

The age old question, how to get people to my website? It is not easy, so don't be fooled, it takes a ton of time and research to get listed, and if you are not in top ten of first page of Google, you are lost in cyberspace. It is no different than having a billboard in the desert, no one will see you.

Blogs are clogging up the internet, and it has become obvious the only reason most blogs exist is to generate Google Adsense revenues, and sadly, this is in decline as well, so if this is your intent with your blog, you are in for a rude awakening.

The bottom line is this. Blogs are a dime a dozen, so unless you research a niche, you will not see any traffic for a long long time. Google is constantly changing their system, and they are starting to purge thousands of splach pages and blogs which the only purpose they serve is to generate PayPerClick revenues and have little content. If you are going down this road, you better have great content, ever changing, and a unique niche, and only then do you have a chance.

You can also have all of the above and still get little in return, so make sure your niche is full of high paying key words, and this too is in steep decline as the internet becomes saturated with redundant duplicated templated sites which all look the same. You must have your own domain, period, no sub domains or you won't have a chance of getting on top of Google. Pick a domain name with main key words of subject matter, and this is vital. I could spend a lifetime posting strategies, but without these starters, you will never get traffic. The most important ingredient is having an aged site, so the sooner you get your domain, the better.

    Good luck to all, Mike

I'd say to make sure you were a member of major social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, StumbleUpon (a great blog traffic tool), as well as other similar sites of that nature. I think #4 on the last comment isn't a neccesity, although it couldn't hurt.. haha

If anyone's interested in buying traffic (seeing as this is a thread regarding how to get traffic), I'm selling advertising for $15 for 1000 impressions. The ad is your whole website: not just a banner, and it appears on the screen for a minimum of 40seconds. How/why? Im starting a lotto gaming site, and whilst users wait to view the results, they are shown a whole page ad (taking up 90% of screen). They have nowhere to navigate to except your website, and they have to stay on the site for 40seconds or else they dont find out whether they won their lotto game! Works out $0.015 per visitor for you - below market average of $0.02 as we're just starting up, but you'll still get your impressions!
Please PM/email me if your interested. pangeaenterprisesltd.com is the managing website, not the actual place where the ads will appear.

While I read all this post a few of them very interesting and a few of them a opportunity to place a link.

A few of these techniques are quite correct. But here is what I see.

    1) Using a free blog doesn't give you value. The traffic is not yours and you don't own nothing. If the company decided to close your account you are doom.

    2) You want to sale ads on your website, or links, or content. Get serious about it. With $20.00 you can get a domain name and hosting. Get Wordpress and build your blog. This way the traffic is yours, you control the content, etc.

    3) Search Engine Optimization (Search Engine Optimization) is not just meta tags as many people think. Search Engine Optimization is building links, get your code valid, analyze your traffic to look for faults or ways to increment traffic, and more. Build a valid blog with fresh content, work it hard, get quality titles, create a strong internal link structure, socialize your blog, and you will see the effect.

    4) Don't participated on FFA (Free-For-All) or does traffic exchanges programs. The majority is just spammers and get rich quick plans. In other words lazy people. Sorry I have to said it. If this people will place the effort they do on a real job, I bet they will be successful. So avoid does market.

    5) Look for advertisers like Kontera, they place links on your content. Very lucrative if you have a good blog.

    6) Don't submit your site to any search engine. Make them find you from other websites. If you submit your site they will place you on a crawl list, if they find you from links they will add you to a interesting list. Difference? Huge!

    7) Be part of social networks like Facebook, Linkedin, etc. Don't spam your contacts but make them know you be working on your stuff.

    Play smart!

If you use banner ads to promote your business, make sure it looks professional and has a good headline.
Readers of your ad with have one question in mind: "What's in it for me?" So an effective headline must state a compelling benefit.

For blogs, it's always a good idea to put a widget like AddThis onto your posts. Social bookmarking sites can be a goldmine for traffic if you've got great content.
