Their chicken hamburgers and icecream is not bad though.

The great lesson I've always taken away from McDonald's is the concept of Scalability. All too often, startups stumble and fall because the owner didn't make them scalable, and after hitting a certain level of growth, the model fell apart.

Ray Croc was a genius at scalability.

It's actually cool how this topic was at the top of the forum list when I just signed on.

Today in my Health class, we were watching a video about how bad McDonald's food is. Now I never eat fast food because I don't think it's that good. So, my health teacher started saying how Ray Kroc is so blah blah blah for not thinking of the welfare of the American people.

This got me sort of ticked off. My Health teacher would be retired right now if he would stop bashing at all the billionaires and millionaires and what not. I actually started a little argument with him about his bashing and said that it was perfectly fine that Ray Kroc created such an unhealthy company or whatever. Since he knows I'm into business and crap like that, I did not get a detention .

So that's my little random story of the day.

Hope I didn't put you all to sleep.

Jay

You should have told him that it is the consumers responsability to make healthy decisions.

Also, on top of that, he created a system that is very easily duplicatable with very little training. He created the turn key business which has had one of the biggest influences on major chains.

I heard Ray Kroc once challenged Chuck Norris to a street fight! He lost of course but came closer to winning than anyone else...

No no no.. he sold milkshake machines and McDonald's was one of his customers. While he was making the sale, he noticed how efficiently the restaurant was pumping out burgers made by young teenagers.

You guys are both correct. The simple fact is that social responsibility is often neglected in favor of increased profits... For anyone unfamiliar with corporate law, it's a legal requirement to do everything possible to maximize profits for the shareholders. This is a problem that exists in many large corporations and it's a little disappointing that McDonald's diverts so much attention away from some of the other socially irresponsible companies in the world. McDonald's happens to be extremely unhealthy while extremely convenient and priced to sell, all at the same time. A dangerous combination which the company makes no effort to correct.

This is a political ideology issue that will never be won because there is so much money supporting the rights to make money that any attempts to regulate this type of behavior is tossed aside to the detriment of society. I'm sure I'll be labeled as a communist and scolded for saying this but that's how things stay the same.

I read somewhere that when Ray Kroc was young, he believed that opportunity only knocked once and took his chances as they came. so see he recognized the opportunity and finally made it into success
