I think the reason why Oprah's talk show is so successful compared to the others is that she focuses on personal growth, spirituality, family relationships and fixing social problems.

These topics are important to women, and that's why her fanbase is almost 100% women. They see her as a positive role model, and an inspiration.

Whereas Jerry Springer appeals to the lowest common denominator, and brings out the worst in people, Oprah appeals to people's decency and values, and brings out the best in people.

In a way, she is a social entrepreneur. And that's why she's so successful.
