Exclamation Speeding up the YE experience!
Hi Everyone,

I wanted to give you all a quick heads up to let you know that we may experience up to one hour of downtime during our Hosting Upgrade which will take place within the next 24 hours. The good news is: The load time and overall speed of the site should be a lot faster!

We are also starting some new ad campaigns and also doing some PR which will surely boost our traffic along with having a lot more new members coming on board!

Thanks for all the support and feedback during the re-launch of the new site!

Cheers,

Adam T.

It definitely is not faster for me. Have all the upgrades taken place already? Every page hangs an extra few seconds before it reloads. I find myself clicking the "click here to proceed if this link doesn't automatically forward you". I've got a solid pipe and did not experience these same speed issues with the older version of the site.

Adam, one other thing - is there any additional tools you can add to screen for spam bots? Like those auto-generated image things? or something that requires someone to add 2+2 or something? I was really hoping the new version of vB would cut down on the spam bots but apparently they are still slipping through the cracks.

sunny11 is one of at least a dozen spam bots in the last 30 days spamming for wholesale/knockoff Nike shoes... I just deleted 3 posts but his account should be banned before it spits out more garbage.

Thanks,

-dr

I found this on the vbulletin.com website and thought it may be helpful:

Quote:
Enable image verification image in the registration form:

AdminCP --> vBulletin Options --> User Registration Options

Scroll down to "Image Verification", Ensure you can see the image saying "vBulletin" and if it is there click "Yes" and save it.

Possibly do an IP search on the account as it must have originated from a computer and if its a Unique IP ban it. Then delete the account so that it will be forced to register again and it will stumble across the image verification process and wont be able to register.

David, what you are referring to above is called CAPTCHA, for the most part it's useless. I am going to code another anti-spam hack now though which should help even more. A large percentage of the spam has gone completely already, I'm not sure if the new modification will be as effective but I'll give it a go .

This site does have a lot more code and a lot more images that have to be loaded, rendered and displayed. That means page load times are automatically longer and on some pcs, browsers will lag when you try to scroll.

Hi Nick, thank you for the effort at least. I haven't been around this board too awful long but I'd much rather spend my time helping a nascent business idea flourish and share my experience and expertise than delete spam!

Have a great weekend!
