In your opinion and experience, what have you found to be the best way to get traffic on the internet?

Content. Content = King.

Thats the most obvious way...post regularly and you'll get snatched up by search engines and you'll develop a following of loyal readers. By having loads of great content, you're also building up your internet presence which can lead to loads of backlinks and yet more traffic.

If you've got a bit of money to spare try Text Link Ads or Adbrite. (sorry - had to through in the affiliate link there!). This will give you traffic from a reputable site and will also help valuable backlinks section.

Posting on popular forums like this wil also increase traffic to your site. Search Engine Optimization.....There's too much! Give it a search on Google and start reading!

I have tried all kinds of avenues to increase traffic. By far the best is when my site is referenced in articles on other larger sites.

I'm thinking of Adbrite for PPC - I think they would offer the most control and best value for your campaign.
