What is more effective for SEO?

I have begun working on my own little web project, and have just recently acquired all the domains for the name im going to be using -.com, .net, .org, .ca, .biz .

The website will have several features, which may include a blog, forum etc.

Now what im wondering is if it is better for SEO to have each website feature on its own domain ex the forum will be at mydomain.net, the website hub will be at mydomain.com, and the blog on mydomain.org and have them all linked together or is it better to have all the features on the same domain and have it like mydomain.com/forum, mydomain.com/blog and simply have all the other domains forwarded to the .com?

Thanks in advance,
Anthony T.

In my expereince, buy all the domains and redirect to the .com site.

Here's why I say this. Spiders love updated content. Your forum and your blog are going to provide the updated content which in turn is going to help boost your search engine rankings. When I added my blog to my site, my rankings went up and its because I'm posting at least 3 times a week. (Well, I've slacked off in April, but it's been a busy month!)

The other reason I would put them all on the same site is that if someone finds your forum through the search engines on the .net, they assume that the meat of the site is on the same site. Don't make them go looking for the link to the .com or the .org.

Remember, a confused mind says no. I have to take a step back often times and realize that not everyone out there is as internet savvy as most of us starting these online ventures. So, I put myself in their shoes and work hard at making sure that my site is easily navigated.

Just my 2 cents.

I would try an SEO forum for an expert opinion. This question has been asked many times, so you can likely search for the answer.

I will warn you that I have learned it is NOT good to use redirects. If anything, you can put a text or an image hyperlink from your .net to your .com, but don't use META Redirects, as search engines penalize you for this.

These are the two best SEO forums, I've found:

Good luck!

Awesome. Thanks HeatherJ and North, I appreciate the replies.

Looks like building the whole site on the .com is the way to go.

You should build your website on .com thats for sure. Also keep updating your blog/ forum etc this will help you get SEO alot quicker. Try to input your link to as many other websites as you can. Whether you pay for that marketing or not, its good to get some exposure.

If you can, make sure all of your domains are on different IP addresses. Google takes the IP address into account when calculating your ranking.

How important is it to acquire all the domains for the name you are going to use? I recently acquired the .com for my site (at a heafty price). .org is taken but all others are open. Is .org worth going after? Should I grab the others?
