What do you think about this new idea of mine?

What if I can get a bunch of people to work with me on creating a network of forums. The concept would be to have everyone run their forum as they would on their own; but instead, the members table are all shared among one another. For example, if I was a member of an entreprenuer's forum I am open to join other forums within the network without having to sign up again.

Not only do I current have the infrastructure to do this now, I have a programmer that can put this together for us fairly quickly. our current project can host all the forums as well. Here is a sample of the forum http://www.buibase.org/phpbb/ and you can read about our project here: http://dan.buibase.com and http://buibase.com. I would put a forum button at top that will let members see listing off all our network forums. We would merely be the means of tieing the members together for all the forums.

Members on our forums would be able to have a free sites such as these instantly: http://david.buibase.com http://oca.buibase.com http://stonino.buibase.com http://cindy.buibase.com

Would anyone be interested in doing this together? Do you see any flaw with this idea?

I understand that doing this increases the membership for all the forums, but in my best Akula impersonation:

1) Will this increase post counts? I wouldnt think so.

2) Would the members know that they are signing up for other forums as well - and this recieve emails from each of the webmaster's whenever they send stuff out (some might hate this)

Don't you think there is a promotional bennefit to this structure? Say we had 50 people total each promoting themselves independently.

Wouldn't the convenience of one-stop-shopping increase posting?

SendBlast, I thought of the category thing but I think people want ownership, especially entrepreneurs.

No, it will never work.

But seriously, why are you asking here? Go and make it and test it out. What do you want people to tell you? Yes, it's amazing?!

dan....it's difficult to judge the pitch unless it specifies what problem you're trying to solve

all I'm hearing right now is you describing some sort of a purposeless humpty dumpty that you've stitched together with cpanel scripts and a bunch of "wouldn't it be cool!?" kind of ideas

it's sort of incomprehensible

Look at ning.com. Their social network of well, social networking sites has proved them into the top 1000 websites on the net. Give it a shot, it couldnt hurt! And, there is previous success before you so thats more motivation.

cswolf, one of the things I like about this forum is that I do not have to invest time and energy on something that will not work. My business plan requires many entrepreneurs to work together.

Akula, the main problem I see is we have a bunch of entrepreneurs working independently. I guess I am just fishing for a nitch that can allow entreperneurs to work together.

Anyone out there interested in working together? It does not have to be a forum. I can't seem to get entrepreneurs to see my point. Let's face it, working independently we each have a slim chance at being successful. Working together will give us a much better chance.

I think what he wants to do is make a broad forum application where people only have to do a single sign-up.

dan...I think your initiative is great, and I do want to be less disagreeable, but your pitch is all over the place and difficult to get excited about in its current form

Try to quantitatively describe a really great problem that everyone can get understand, digest and feel inclined to solving

like....this is a hypothetical example for how you might wanna structure your pitch: "Guys, entrepreneurs in New York have a problem. In 2006, over 10,000 of the city's startup founders lost over $1billion in personal savings as a result of having to close down their ventures on account of New York's rising real estate and other prices. I have an inimitable, scalable solution that solves this problem for New York entrepreneurs. Anyone wanna check out my solution?"

For me...this kind of format is more accessible

:-)
