Suggestions for Social networking idea

Hey guys, me and my friends are planning to startup a social networking site. I know there are so many established social networks already, thats why we're trying to think of ideas such as functions, or other ways to make it different.

Hope you guys can give suggestions to help us out.

Thanks a lot

One idea I was thinking about - something similar to Zoints but also have the ability for the owners of those forums to rate you, similar to a credit report, but a social report.

The more posts you have, the more points you get. Maybe if you are an admin / moderator, you get more points. If the board also has a paid section like DN forums, webmasterworld, or EE and you are a paying member - maybe even more points.

Of course, some type of policing would need to be used - but there is potential

Thanks for the suggestion Corey, I think its a really good idea to add that in. But the points that you said, what can the members do with the points? Similarly, what does paid members get?

Thanks again for the suggestion

Me and my friends did a venture backed Australia's facebook.com

I know a fair bit about opportunities in sn

Write this in big red letters on your wall:

PEOPLE WHO DO CONSUMER FACING SNs ARE LOSERS
I REFUSE TO BE A LOSER
THEREFORE, I WILL LIMIT MY OPPORTUNITY SELECTION TO CORPORATE SOCIAL NETWORKING

I had an idea to build a networking website for entrepreneurs, businesses, career people, and the affluent. It was called doughstreet.com. I made a mock-up website with all the features etc, but I couldn't get financing. Um yeah what was I saying...

You'd probably do better to make software to help run those SN websites. Slide.com is a good example. Making salt for the soup is easier (more profitable) than the pot...if the pot's rusty.

It could help forum owners to know who is spam. And the spammers are getting trickier. I.e. some post I like your site! And then come back later to add a signature so they get a link back.

Or some just do a lot of link dropping, for example this thread.
