Seeking advice of experienced bloggers RE: RSS & Adsense

Can someone help me understand how RSS works with adsense and other advertising schemes. Almost every blog I visit has RSS links to subscribe to the blog. But upon thinking about this, I realized that wouldn't that deter people from visiting the site and potentially generating Adsense revenue?

So what your asking is if you offered an RSS feed you think this would harm your potential earnings?

no, people use rss feed to get notified when a site is updated...so they can go back to the site

rss promotes repeat visits

As akula said its mostly fo repeat visits, yeh some may just read from your feed but the majority will come back... would you rather they clicked on 1 adsense or maybe take the chance of them coming back over and over. You don't really lose out.

I think RSS will take over opt in lists, most people will just suscribe to RSS unless theres an incentive to sign up to your mailing list.

You could go that route as well. Depending on what RSS service you utilize, there are benefits down the road to a good chunk of subscribers. Feedburner for instance will display ads within your feed once you hit a certain threshhold of readers.

When it comes to traffic, the best ways to make a direct tie with your reader are:

1. Newsletter - If you have their email address, it doesn't matter if they never come back to your blog or site. You can still market to them.

2. RSS Feed - Subscribed to your feed as long as you post content then this person has a chance at reading it, and doesn't need to always go to your site. 2nd best to an email address, because if the person decided to get rid of his subscription to your feed, then you've lost your tie with that reader.

3.
Return visitors - People who bookmark your site or come back often. These are good but lack any tie with your site. If they loose their bookmark then they loose their tie to you.

Hope that helps and Best Regards Always,
