Start off by making sure you have a good description and keywords in the header of your website, then submit your site to search engines. The vast majority of people who surf the web use search engines to find what they're looking for.

Keep updating your site and making it better. The search engines are looking for active sites.

Hi,
creating a myspace also a good idea. You can also submit your site to directories.

I would advise strongly against submitting them to search engines. That almost always guarantees you to NOT be listed until a long time later.
Having your website linked to by bigger websites would get you indexed within 2 / 3 days.
To optimise your website, it would be suggested to add a GOOD descriptive "Title Tag". If you are only gonna do one good thing to your website, make it good unique title tag for each and every page of your website

Use meta tags in the header (this dosnt really work, but it makes the search engines recognise you.
For example, my meta tags for my web site are:
<meta name="keywords" content="digital camera, lens, lens filter, canon, olympus, sony, telescope, rangefinder, laser, binoculars, rifle scope, slr camera, photography">
<meta name="description" content="LP Optics carries a wide variety of cameras and optical equipment including accessories. We also provide a resource center offering free information on how to get the most out of your camera and take stunning photographs.">
<meta name="author" content="Ryan Walters">
<meta name="copyright" content="2007">
<meta name="contact" content="customerservice@lp-optics.com">
Submit to search engines.
Get indexed through large "authority" web sites linking to your page. For example, use social networking sites such as http://digg.com/, http://del.icio.us/, http://www.icerocket.com/ and http://technorati.com/ to write blogs about your business, tag them with related keywords.
Hope that helps.

Update and improve on your site, focusing on 3 things:
1. keywords (metatags)
2. contents
3. building backlinks
In building backlinks and promoting your site:
1. social networking (your idea of myspace is good)
2. submissions
3. blogging
