Press release or article submission?

Both press release and article submission are the basic ways to do general marketing. Which one do you prefer? Or do you confuse them?

Press Release and article are definately different each other. I would say Press Release is a lot more powerful than articles, however, if you have some writing skills, you should do the articles and submit to the article sites that drive traffics.

Aren't press releases also related to the fact that there is a time dimension attached to it.
If there is no 'time worthiness' to the news the the value of the release would drop.

Not quite.

Example: I submitted a press release over 4 years ago when I launched my company and I am still getting traffic from it BTW, it's the ONLY release I did for my company and it has gotten over 55k views since the release!

Press releases are a completely different positioning tool than articles.

Articles are there to provide valuable information on specific topics, while press releases are there to announce value to the media through a story.

However, a great marketing plan will include both. Hope that helps!

I think press releases are more effective than articles. You need to go for press releases.

Press releases are related to what the media writes about you. Article submission are what you write as well as the qualities of your website that parallel with everyday skills and tips.

Both are important. These two things are different in concept but what makes it more powerful is on how you are going to write your PR/Articles for your site. Submissions are just a follow up procedure.

Both are good way to promote the web sites but article submissions will be more effective because you can also get more and more traffic to your website through articles. And if you are good at writing then article submissions would be the better choice.

Yes, I agree with you! Article submission is more beneficial compared to press releases.

Two different things, there is no guarantee that press release will do anything, remember that they are flooded with thousands a day so it has to be special to get picked up.

Articles on the other hand usually do if they are well written because sites are always hungry for new material.

Press Releases may be the most effective a few days/weeks after posting them, but unless your content is outdated, your article will last a long time. Contrary to that, the PR seems to be one of the best things that happened to Joshua Jones back there, and there you have it! A press release is just that: you're announcing your existence to the world and showing them you're here. An article however, is to prove that as a person/company you have some knowledge about what you do and you're taking the extra step to share, and educate others with what you know. The outcome/end result is akin to proving you're a master at what you do. Then, there's also the quantity: you can usually have only one PR per site, to deal with your company or a service your company has introduced. With articles, the topics are infinite and you can submit a large number of articles to any article directory to gain back links and increase traffic on to your site.
