PayPal problems?

I typed in PayPal in Google and it came up with an anti-PayPal site (right underneath the real PayPal Site).

It was an anti-PayPal site, full of people complaining about it.

I looked through quickly (any more and it would hurt my eyes), and didn't notice much. Most people couldn't even spell properly, and some seemed to spend most of their days making anti-PayPal material.

However, as with any service, due dilegence remains my priority. Objectively, does PayPal have any real problems? Or problems associated with PayPal (but not caused by them, such as scams, hacking, etc)?

my personal experiences with paypal have been great, however many people i know have told me about how terrible it is, how you can get scammed, etc, etc.

the things people have told me sound POSSIBLE, but again, i've never had a problem in 4 or so years of using paypal.

This shouldn't be a surprise really. Paypal services millions of people. There are going to be a number of unhappy customers. Google home depot or in canada rogers cable or any other large company for that matter and you'll see the same type of sites. I know a couple of webmasters who dislike paypal for various reasons.

I personally don't like alot of their policies so don't deal with them. Its a very small ratio of people who actually make purchases w/ paypal from what i hear too...

I like the site, it's well put together and you learn a couple of things from it too....LucasK, check it out...it'll answer alot of your questions....

Well...it's sorta like diet food. The diet food sucks, but you have to have it, so you pay more money for it and deal with it's horrible taste.

PayPal is the same way - the service kinda sucks, the percentage rates are less than desireable, they can do basically whatever they want to your money, whenever they want - but...they're the most widely used ones so in order to tap into their user base and their "upheld name" you have to deal with it.

I personally have lost $6,000 due to PayPal's business practices, yet continue to use them because I just have to.

Hey Eric,

Same for me. Well, almost, I've only lost about $200 in NSF fees from my bank because PayPal keeps trying to charge my bank account instead of my credit card. I'm currently trying to dispute the charges and I'm getting really upset with PayPal over it, but, because I do a lot of business on eBay (read: addict...jk, ok I admit that I have the eBay AnythingPoints credit card.... , I have to use it as 99.99999% of the sellers on eBay want PayPal.

Settlements have come in. Paypal was sued for $9.25 million. Check your email if you are a paypal member and they give u instructions on how to get money you lost while you were a member or if you got screwed. If you lost $6,000 then you are entitled to it, people who had their accounts locked out and what not. Check your email they emailed all members.

I received this email as well.

Being that I never lost any money to PayPal, why would they send it to me?

Karen

Karen they are entitled to send it to you by law and by the judge that was handeling the lawsuit. By law they have to inform all parties that may have been hurt or damaged by the findings of the case. Usually the prosecutor does it not the defendant (PayPal) If you didn't lose anything just ignore it, but if you did this is your only opportunity to get back what you lost.

I wonder if this law suit will force Paypal to "fix" the problems people seem to have with the service. Although I did notice after reading the notice email from Paypal that they are pretty adament about not admitting any wrong doing whatsoever. But this is a lot of bad press - every current member of paypal knows about this case now so it has to impact user numbers.
