Open Source

Is there money to be made in open source software? Surely we all enjoy some version of it, whether it be IM, browser, e-mail, CMS; you name it and there is probably a free version somewhere.

Is there a profit to be made here? Selling computers with preinstalled Linux OS's and programs? Link revenue?

Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this.

Providing service for Open Source software can be profitable.

If you do that, someone will just remove the code that facilitates the advertisements, and release that code as a new project... and it would be perfectly legal.

My Sambadmin site is one way to make money off of Open Source Software. Providing installation and support services is another way.

My site is just starting, but it is all content driven with no products. I am doing alright from Google Ads. Let's say, the site has paid for the expense it creates for an entire year, within the first two days it has been publically available.
