My Website

So many questions.... But lets start simple.

Here is my website.... http://www.qualitymediaplayers.com

Something I started a few months ago, using zen cart. I've had a few sales(advertising with become.com and google adwords). Im trying to target only the portable media market but now im having second thoughts. My site can use several improvements, such as more products, reviews, and more payment options(only have paypal right now)... and several other things, but before I start typing several pages I want to get some outside opinions, not only on my website, but on the general area of consumer electronics.

I believe it is a lot more competitive than I thought it was, very low profit margins(like 15% or less). I think a lot of people think when you buy something for $400 that the retailer is making so much money, but in reality I don't think anyone has room to even fart a little, its so tight. Most of the products I can get from my distributor at wholesale usually sells for less online, especially places like eBay(I was always told eBay was a good guage of real market price on products, I hope thats wrong though, lol). It's become very discouraging. I started this because I was always told to "start a business doing what you like." But what if the things you like aren't profitable? So I am finding that less and less true. Anyway, I have many more thoughts, but I would like to hear from some experts...

Thanks,
Jonathan

Just A Couple Suggestions:
Ditch the Cooltext.com Logo, its a bit unprofessional.
Your Slogan isnt complete: Because Quailty is What Really.....? I'm assuming "MATTERS" was suppose to be there.
Not a bad site over all, just could use some origonality.

You Have Huge Competition. Find A Niche.

Try liquidation.com for wholesale products!
I Wish You The Best of Luck and Please Visit My Website!

Thumbs up Hi, some words more about the niche

Hello, Jonathan07

I agree with mnt11592. You have to choose a niche. There are a lot of similar sites in the World Wide Web and the most popular is the famous eBay. You'll never become more popular then eBay but you can become the most popular in... may be... modern brand jeans or caps with unusual labels! Think about it and find the best niche for you our business!

Make a little research which niches are popular in the internet and choose niche with average popularity. Or find new that in your opinion will be popular. But in this case you have to choose really unique and useful goods for sale there!

Regards, INTEMPO

Hey mnt11592,
your right about the cheesy logo -- I've been working on another one myself, I just needed something quick to put up so I had something. The slogan should read "Because Quality is what Really Counts," but there may be a problem with it getting cut off in different screen resolutions, that I will have to investigate. I'm familiar with Liquidation.com, I've never bought anything there but i have sold jewelry there back when I was into that. They seem to be flooded with lots of generic products from China, I've been burnt with that sort of merchandise on eBay before, I actually liquidated a lot of useless Generic mp3 players on there a few months ago. I've seen stuff like Ipods on there in big lots, but the last lot I watched went for almost retail prices, and that was before figuring in the freight shipping price.

INTEMPO,
I have seen many many websites(failing websites) that just offer general consumer electronics merchandise. For some reason I thought that offering just media players was sort of a niche but I think I was mistaken. I think I missed the exact meaning of what a "niche" is. I need to target a specific group of users.

Thanks for the comments guys, more are welcome.
