Long Domain Names?

Whats your opinion about long domains names?

I recently purchased www.customembroideryservices.com... the largest domain name I own.

However, "custom embroidery" and "embroidery services" are two good keywords that have been searched well... hoping that this becomes searchable? and perhaps generate traffic for my business?

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong with them, as long as they relate to the site, lets say like for example if you had a site that bids on games... then it would be very acceptible to have letsbigongames.com or something along those lines....
Good luck

I think the general rule of thumb is under 16 characters, for the sake of people being able to remember what they are.

People have the rule of under 25 characters, some people like the under 20 character rule but the under 25 is the one i prefer bbecuase you might have a nice tld even though its long, but if its related to the subject etc then there so really be no problem with it to be honest.

i think anything past 3 words is pushing it for peoples memory, if you keep it to 3 words, no matter how long they are you should be fine

its just too hard to remember, too easy to make a typo and in general very hard to market

imagine putting up a poster with that long url.
but the again, sometimes realy long urls become really really catchy.

Well things like this are great for SEO, bad for branding.

I'm sure Matt Cutts has covered the length of URLs on his blog. It you haven't visited it before its well worth a visit. He covers all sorts of things you wouldn't think a person in his position would be able to cover. Although how much of it is hot or warm air is open to debate
